A tad pricey...but absolutely, positively, completely worth every single dollar. We R most definitely putting this restaurant on our yearly rotation. We deserve the 3-4x a year we'll be going for our visits. A true treat if U R German or just love German food. We R German thru and thru, so we ABSOLUTELY LOVE any and all German food. My husband and I had their Roladens. Beyond delicious. Almost rivaled mine...lololol. Their red cabbage is a tige 2 sour 4 me. Too much red vinegar. But a couple sprinkles of sugar and we were back in business. I have a condition that unfortunately, doesn't let me have or enjoy anything even remotely sour, thus the sugar. Their spaetzle was to die for. I had their salad with raspberry vinegarette. The vinegarette was delicious. I wasn't enthralled with the salad itself bc it was raddichio, endive and some other 'weedy' looking Lettuce. It really wouldn't have been so bad but the pieces were cow-sized. They were huge and cumbersome. Their chicken and dumpling soup was so outstanding, I literally wanted to take a gallon home with me. We each had desserts that gave a whole new meaning to sumptuous! We took home 3 pieces of their key Lime cheesecake for breakfast the next morning. Quite literally the best Key Lime anything that I've ever had!! And I have enjoyed a lot of Key Lime everything in my 63 years as it's my absolute favorite dessert flavor. For our dinner dessert My son had their German chocolate cake, which he literally inhaled. U need 2 understand something. My son does not like chocolate anything, at all, unless it's milk chocolate covered strawberries. That's it. So for him 2 not only order that dessert, but to scarf it down in record time is on for the books. My husband had their cherry cheesecake which he said was totally yummy. And I had their polka dot cheesecake. It was a chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake sandwiched in between 2 layers of chocolate mousse cheesecake. Died and went to Heaven!! On the way out, we also bought a pint of their homemade cheese spread. My God, I could literally bathe in that stuff!! It actually has little teeny tiny pieces of minced garlic and onion pieces in it. Every other restaurant that has cheese spread only dreams that theirs would be this smooth, delicious and addictive!! Trust me on this one. This restaurant has everything U could possibly ask for in any restaurant, and then some. SO DEFINITELY worth the trip and drive!!! The only thing is, if U get there around 4-5, U probably wouldn't need any reservations...during the week that is. We went 4 our 25th anniversary and it was on a Thursday. We got there at 425pm. Luckily, they weren't too busy yet. By 5pm...quite literally standing room only. By 530 it was a 45 minute wait- ON A THURSDAY NIGHT mind U. I wouldn't even dare a trip there at any time in a weekend with out firm...

Visiting the Dorf Haus Supper Club in Roxbury is like stepping into a beautifully preserved slice of Old World charm — and every visit feels like coming home. This past Friday marked my fourth time dining at this beloved spot, and once again, the experience was absolutely outstanding.
From the moment we walked in, the warmth of the service stood out. We were warmly welcomed by Rebecca Maier-Frey, one of the second-generation owners who, along with her brother Monte Maier, continues the proud tradition begun by their parents, Vern and Betty Maier. It's clear that the spirit of the original Dorf Haus — built on dedication, hard work, and a love of people — is alive and well.
The food was phenomenal. Dinner started with their famous Dorf Haus Fritters, served warm with softened butter. These lightly sweet, airy rolls are so comforting, they alone would be worth the trip.
Next came a hearty bowl of their Chicken and Dumpling Soup, brimming with tender chicken, vegetables, and homemade dumplings — true comfort food at its finest.
For the main course, the award-winning Friday Fish Fry did not disappoint: perfectly golden, lightly breaded haddock served with crispy hash browns and a side of tartar sauce. The freshness and flavor of the fish were exceptional.
We also tried the Schweinshaxe — a richly roasted pork shank topped with sauerkraut and served alongside applesauce and delicious spaetzle. The pork was incredibly flavorful and fall-off-the-bone tender, an absolute must-try for fans of authentic German cuisine.
Not pictured but equally delightful were the jumbo 16 oz. pretzel, served with warm cheese sauce and German mustard, and the Muenster cheese curds, which were crisp on the outside and perfectly melty inside.
Beyond the food, what truly sets the Dorf Haus apart is the feeling of timelessness. Rebecca and Monte have preserved the heart and soul of the supper club their parents built. Surrounded by antique German decor, paintings of castles and kings, and breathtaking stained glass, you can’t help but feel like you’re part of a living history.
In a world that’s always evolving, it’s both rare and refreshing to find a place where the traditions of hospitality, community, and exceptional food are lovingly preserved. Dorf Haus Supper Club is one of those treasures, and I look forward to returning time and again to create even more...
Read moreJust a short 35 minute drive from Madison's eastside is this gem of a German restaurant. The outside architecture draws you into the spacious parking lot and peaks your curiosity to come inside and discover what really makes this place special. The dark wooden beams over stucco walls, classic framed artwork and German Steins around the bar, combined with wait staff dressed in German attire give the authenticity that you are about to experience something truly special. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The bar area is warm and the drinks are poured to perfection and steins of beer are filled to the brim. Our server always had a smile and chatted with us like we had been friends for years. Our table of 4 ordered 4 different entrees, which while being prepared we enjoyed the fantastic fritters with honey butter. These things are amazing and would be a dessert item or breakfast specialty at most places, but here they are simply preparing your pallet for the fabulous food that is soon to arrive. The chicken and dumpling soup or fresh green salads came next and the discussions around the table about the flavors and freshness were enough to prove that these items are the perfect lead up to the entrees that are next to arrive. As our server carried out the tray of food the first thing that hits you are the wonderful smells, then you notice the portion size and you wonder if it's even possible to finish your plate (it wasn't for any of us - to go boxes for all 4). The Jager Schnitzel was tender and melted in our mouth with the mushroom gravy accenting and adding to the pleasure. The size of the pork shank on 2 of our plates would have been enough to feed all 4 of us. Yet combining those with the sausages, german potato salad, kraut and pickled red cabbage made for a platter of mouth watering satisfaction. With no room for dessert (the fritters at the beginning satisfied that course in this experience), we settled our bill. Considering the fact we all had to-go boxes with lunch for tomorrow, the prices are more than fair and reasonable. Our discussion as we exited for the evening, was basically about when we could plan our next visit. We will be back, and with more family...
