Normally we love the pizza at On the Rox. My husband tends to get it at least twice a month. We've had a good experience up until tonight. I don't usually write not so great reviews, but after our experience, I felt compelled to...
First off - right when we were seated we noticed there was a large party that was coming in slowly. Our server said, oh you need to get your food in ASAP because they had two large groups coming in, which is fine and understandable. But it turned out both groups got their pizzas(probably close to 15 pizzas between the two) in before us anyway so it didn't matter. (Wish we would have known that)... Second - we ordered two ten inch pizzas, a meatball sandwich of sorts, and a chicken salad. The sandwich and salad came out an HOUR before our pizza. Two of us were eating and the other two sat there waiting for an hour for our pizza. AGAIN, I understand it was busy -but when is this normal at a restaurant? To bring two people's food out an hour before others? Third - our server was not truthful. She shared with us that our pizzas were in the oven when clearly they were not. Just be honest! I would have respected that more than continuing to string us a long. Fourth - We finally asked for the pizza to go since it just didn't make sense for us to stay ( we had a newborn with us and it was super loud). Once we got the pizza out orders we're not up to par. I asked for no black olives and it came with black olives. My husband asked for a well done crust and it was not well done(which our server used that as an excuse earlier).
Again we understand when it's super busy, but be up front. She should have let us know that there were a ton of pizzas ahead of us. We maybe would have ordered something different or would have been more aware of the situation. And don't lie to us...
Anyway. We will probably order on the rox again, but this may be our last time eating in the...
Read moreI had been to the predecessor, The Roxbury Tavern, on a number of occasions, and On the Rox retains the small-town charm of the original, while offering a wide array of delicious specialty pizzas plus there are goats?! Amazing!
Potato skins as an appetizer were delicious! For an entree I got the "personal" size (more than enough!) Italian Beef pizza- a wonderful combination of toppings that frankly I'm surprised is not offered at more pizza restaurants! Deep dish pizza this is not- the crust is thin, crispy, and delicious, a perfect vessel for the toppings to shine!
The others in my group had a build-your-own pizza, and a taco salad, both of which they enjoyed as well. Overall, the food and especially drink prices were very reasonable, considering the current economic situation. Very happy to support a local business, and I'll be back when...
Read moreI spent the day at Devil's Lake and was feeling pizza on my way home (Madison). I hit up Google and that's how I ended up at On the Rox. Damn this was fantastic. They were busy, but I have a feeling they often are. There was plenty of seating inside, but they had a lot of to-go orders. Also, one of the ovens was down. I had a 50 minute wait but that was no problem at all and it's not common, only due to the oven situation. The staff was very polite and made sure I understood the wait time. On the Rox is inside a very old stone building with a great old timey decor. The pizza was EXCELLENT, as described in other reviews. I highly recommend and will be taking family and friends there...
