We love coming to this restaurant every year and have made it a family tradition to have our farewell dinner here on the last night of our stay in Schroon Lake. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by a kind hostess who let us know there was a table available for our group of six.
Unfortunately, the server assigned to our table didn’t seem happy about it. Right in front of me, she complained about having to take our table and gave the hostess a hard time. After she walked away, the hostess even apologized on her behalf. I told her it was fine and that if the server was feeling overwhelmed, she could take her time—we were still waiting on two more people to join us.
Despite that, the server continued to act as though we were an inconvenience. She seemed impatient while we placed our order, and when we considered ordering a bit more, she commented, “That’s a lot of food,” as if it were a hassle. For context, we had only ordered some salads to share, soup, and a bottle of wine. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I know that larger orders usually mean a better tip—so her attitude was puzzling.
She remained distant and inattentive throughout the meal, and her demeanor wasn’t much better with other staff. When it came time to pay, my grandfather was ready to place his card down, but my grandmother wanted to double-check the check. The server walked away shaking her head, clearly annoyed because she wanted to close us out.
While I usually tip 20% or more, this was one of the rare times I didn’t feel the service warranted it. Still, my grandparents insisted on tipping the full 20%. Having all worked in restaurants ourselves, we know what respectful service looks like—and this wasn’t it, especially considering how she treated older guests. We will still continue to visit this restaurant because we are a fan of their food and have had great experiences...
Read morewould love to give them a rating on their food but never got that far. Went there Saturday night, drove by about 7:00pm place was packed as expected decided to wait and come back later. we went back about 8:45pm crowd was thinned down a lot, went to host station asked if we could be seated outside, we were seated immediately. Host gave us menus and said "someone would be here in a minute with silverware and to take your order." OK no problem so far, look at menu decide what we're having (I'm slow looking at new menus because I look at them thoroughly) about 10 minutes looking at menu, no waitress, no silverware, no drinks. The table to our left was getting served (albeit half of what the waiter brought them was wrong and they were waiting on two of their meals out of six) 10 More minutes table on right was finishing up leaving with doggie bag waitress was clearing table guy says to girl he didn't care if she left the doggie bag or took it, I jokingly say to him we'll take it since we haven't seen a waitress. Figuring that waitress would wait on us or at least let someone else know. Not a peep from her. 10 more minutes go by STILL NOBODY. I say let's go to Flanagans within 20 minutes of arriving there, was seated, had drinks served, order in, and soup in front of me and they were pretty busy at the time. 30 MINUTES wait time not even super busy VERY UNACCEPTABLE, at least someone could have taken a drink order and told us it would be a little while. I have worked in the resteraunt business on and off for over thirty years, we owned our own place so I know the difficulty of finding good staff, which is what I blame this on. I probably will make another attempt to go there as it seems like it could be a decent place. Will update...
Read moreThis is a story right out of the movies... "Coffee bathroom stop" that is the title I am going with! Coming back from New York city adventure... My travel companion and I needed to make a pit stop to refuel our coffee and drain out some of the New York cities poison we consumed😉. Basically a bathroom and coffee stop. Now don't take this the wrong way but I was a little scared and intrigue at the same time that our choice to get off at the Exit I 87 north to take highway 4 to search for coffee. Deep 10 minutes in we just saw trees and water. Finally there it was the Stick & Stones Caban. I dropped of my friend at the front door and found parking. Went in myself and right away this place lures you in with Wood everywhere. Bright eyed waitress greets you at the door super genuinely Friendly. I looked at the menu and said to myself I wanted to try the fish & chips. Waited for my friend and we both decided let's do late supper. Unfortunately we sat down and found out the kitchen was closed and only Pizza was available. Since I had already prepared my mind and stomach with the thought of eating . We choose a half/half pizza arugula and goat cheese and the other half I ordered all dress with pepperoni on top. But guess what our waitress got a good laugh of my terminology of using our Canadian term All dressed. She said she never heard that a d wanted to know what I mean?? We all had a good laugh and she walk away with a general idea of what I wanted.. but the chef decided he would make a masterpiece. Score 93 percent!! That is incredibly especially from me as I am a very picky pizza water!! We both devoured our pizza with huge smiles! Sincerely Wow!! Go try for yourself! Take the detour...
