I suppose there is a certain appeal to the kitsch vibes of this place. I never did outside dining during the height of the pandemic but it was freezing inside the place which didn't lend itself to the ambience. My son really enjoyed his Mac and cheese but he's 5 and the most discerning palate. I had Chicken wings which were baked and not how wings usually are whenever I order them but some places do this unfortunately. The missus got the pizza which one bite was consumed of and the rest came home with us and no one is clamoring to have any more of it. My mother ordered fish and chips which she didn't really enjoy but then latter complained at night she felt unwell but everyone else felt fine. The staff seemed very nice even dealing with my mother who made a production when my wife tried to pick up the tab but while no one was expecting Michelin star dining even the expectation of bar food was rather disappointing. Maybe on a day with nicer weather it wouldn't have felt as if we were eating outside but I can't speak to that unfortunately. It did seem to have a steady crowd going in I can't be certain if these are regulars or just sort of stumbled across this place after visiting the nearby farm but it left something to be desired. We live in the city but I grew up not too far from here in the peekskill area but had never heard of or seen this place before unlike some things I read in some other reviews. Maybe it was just a bad day maybe we just got a batch of various different things that all were fairly unappetizing. I don't envision myself being back there and it's just 1 perspective everyone should look at the full picture and judge...
Read moreI've eaten at Muscoot Tavern 8 or 10 times and have always enjoyed my meal. Whether with a party of 10 or an intimate dinner for 2 the service is always good. The Tavern is much more than a burger joint, and there are no shortage of them around (all good) but I like the giant burger they serve with a pint of Bass Ale or Guinness from the tap. I've also enjoyed an Italian dish with a bottle or two of wine from there broad wine selection. Everything on the menu is good. I believe that the Tavern is now a historic landmark, if not, it should be. It's about 100 years old. And part of its charm is that it probably has been settling for all those years. At 6'2" tall I have to duck my head to pass through the front door. The dinning room reminds me of the fun house at an amusement park. But as I said it adds to its charm and I'm going with my fork not my level. There are also two outside seating areas. One right off the dining room which in foul weather is enclosed and heated and a full lawn of picnic style tables with umbrellas for fair weather. We are lucky to have so many good restaurants in the area and Muscoot has earned a spot...
Read moreShockingly poor food and mediocre service that makes me lose confidence in what’s going on in the kitchen. Service: the host didn’t recognize us when we entered (right in front of him) for an uncomfortably long time. We weren’t totally turned off at this time, but it was not welcoming at all. Service continued to be mediocre throughout. Food: 1) water had numerous visible black particles at the bottom, so needed new water. 2) soda out of order, so no possibility to drink anything else nonalcoholic. 3) food and drinks served with plastic ware - at this price?! 4) French fries are frozen, “demiglace” sauce made from powdered mix (can’t just use the French word and make it fancy) and 5) food generally poor taste/quality… cafeteria quality ingredients and preparation. I truly don’t understand how this place has good review or how they have all those signs out front about “voted best”… was it voted best a decade ago? Both husband and myself feeling sick on the way home to boot and needed to stop at a fast food restaurant to...
