Very long story but, we requested the bill and I noticed that we were charged for 5 appetizers, instead of a sampler platter, so I brought it to their attention and explained the situation. He said no problem. Then the bill comes back and it is still wrong. He charged us for octopus (which we later realized was a special, not an appetizer choice (but would think when we ordered a sampler he would have suggested we might have been mistaken) and a three item platter and a $3 upcharge for tiropitaka as well as a whole side charge of $7.95 for my substitution of spinach which he did not mention was going to be an additional cost). Long run on sentence I apologize but that’s how absurd this whole situation was. I was calmly explaining the situation again because the owner then came over and asked “ok I hear there’s a misunderstanding what can I do to make you happy” which I thought was a weird way to approach the situation based off his tone but, to each their own. I then explain what had happened to the owner and he then puts the menu in my face asking me to point out where we saw octopus as part of the platter and brought up that I mentioned we’ve been here before and we looked at the menu so we shouldn’t have ordered that way and should have known. I then said they got here late and they quick looked and ordered and the waiter didn’t think it would be a good idea to clarify that 2 people were ordering 5 full sized appetizers when he mentioned 5 and platter specifically when ordering? At this point there’s some commotion so I walk over to the bar area quietly to address and the (manager perhaps) reiterates that she took off all the apps and charged for the octopus and the small platter and an up charge. They then told us it was our mistake. At that point I felt they completely didn’t care and the waiter took no responsibility and we’re going to charge us for whatever they wanted and disregarded what we had wanted to order in the first place. I said forget it, we will just pay for it it’s not a matter of the money but the principle of how it was handled and made us feel like we were the people who made the mistake and we should be penalized for it. I never have felt belittled and uncomfortable over a menu misunderstanding in all my visits to restaurants of any scale. On the way out I told the owner how unprofessional he handled the situation and that we definitely would not be returning. I felt so embarrassed. He then followed me out to the parking lot asking to talk and explain and another staff member followed us out, again, with another menu in our faces saying how we were wrong and how that octopus wasn’t part of the sampler. REALLY you’re going to argue over $25 or so and make the customers feel horrible over what was a nice and enjoyable dinner after we already just paid for it? Any other restaurant owner have taken care of the situation with care compassion and written it off as a mistake/miscommunication and made the...
Read moreUpdate October 2024: Great dinner, awesome service beautiful location as always. The return again for excellent greek food was well worth the drive!!
Was always a favorite of ours. Traveling out east many times to dine or even pick up take out and bring home an hour away during covid, with to go cocktails. This last time, our first dine out since covid began, we picked Hellenic knowing we would feel comfortable in the social distance norm of 2020. The restaurant was spaced out great. The waitress awesome. We got there at 7:45 pm, and they were still rocking. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the many times in past. My Greek salad with chicken was a mush of wilted lettuce, watery, and the chicken was refrigerator cold. Waitress was told. Was offered nothing in return, except new lettuce if I wanted to take anything home. My husband octopus app he loved. But if a Greek salad can't be freshly made chicken warm, and it was my meal, I was very disappointed to say the least as I have always loved it here. We had drinks, wine, apps, and dinner, so no mistaking that we did not just come and have salad.
In response to George, ty for your concern, yes we had good meals as I said above driving an hour there, hour back for takeout. I felt the need to review as it was a salad, with chicken, overlooked as it was served to me. Off season or not it is yr time to shine and we picked there as I knew your social distancing would be great. Just lack of care to a salad served is bizarre to me. We have met you many times and I believe we saw you pull up in yr red truck when we left. We will ask for you...
Read moreI feel bad to leave a negative review for a family owned restaurant in such a sweet location but this truly was the worst Greek food I’ve ever had in my life and the prices are totally unreasonable. The tatziki was not tatziki. It didn’t have any mint or dill, and was totally lacking in flavor. To charge $10 for this with pita when most Greek establishments will offer this for free as a courtesy, with genuine tatziki - is shameful. The avgolemono soup was equally as shockingly terrible. It contained zero chicken, broth was not good and had an artificial yellow color, no real flavor, just mushy orzo. I came in originally wanting a soup and salad with grilled chicken but after seeing the prices, I realized that would not be possible. The Greek salad is $20, adding chicken is an additional $10. The bowl of soup was $10. I don’t know anyone spending $50 with tip included on soup and salad. It’s insane. Additionally all portions were small. I’ll certainly never be coming back which is a shame because there’s no reason they can’t just make better quality Greek food, and price it in the realm of what would be considered reasonable. Even if the food was outstanding - the prices are still way too high. Please put some herbs in your tatziki, chicken in your avgolemono; and please price the menu reasonably… you would...
