Stayed at the Silver Sands for one night (Sunday) of Veterans Day weekend. We were able to walk in at about 6:45pm and sit at the counter. If you want a table, highly recommend a reservation in advance especially during in season. I loved sitting at the counter though, as it was fun to see the talented kitchen staff prepare the food. The space itself is beautifully redone - staying true to its roots with a nostalgic tone but with modern fun touches.
Upon coming here, I was initially a little sad that I wouldn’t be able to try their breakfast/lunch menu as they are closed on Mondays, but I have to say, this was honestly one of the best dinners of my life. The menu is simple and seasonal, providing both delicious and nourishing meals that I surely won’t ever forget.
To start, we had focaccia a la nookies and the special, boiled oysters. The oysters ended up being my absolute favorite dish of the night. They are farmed right from the private beach on the property. The staff was also kind enough to give us a sample of the little neck clam salad, also delicious. Careful - this one was spicy with the long hots! We also had the koginut squash, the crispy chicken, and the chocolate mousse special and all were simply fantastic. I had never had koginut squash before and the way it is prepared is outstanding - brown butter with vincotto (a mild vinegar) with some toasted pistachios and OMG. Don’t sleep on this!!! So unique and haven’t stopped thinking about it for days. The drinks were also on point. We had a white sage gin fizz and a Manhattan, both expertly crafted.
I want to give a special shout out to Maggie, the beverage director, who helped us during our meal. She is an absolute gem! She took time to check in on us, answer our questions, and went out of her way to make sure we had an extraordinary experience. It’s people like her that remind us how special Greenport is, and why we keep coming back. Regardless of the incredible recognition Nookies has received, staying true to superb hospitality and building relationships is the foundation of an excellent restaurant and how I know it’s here to stay. Thank you so much for a memorable evening - can’t wait to see...
Read moreOMG!! This place is SO CUTE AND THE FOOD DELISH!!! 💕🙌🏻💕 one Sunday my hubs and I were thinking about brunch but wanted to try a new place! We had seen this featured on Doug Geeds show a while ago! Not having reservations we figured we would see if we could get in for the hell of it! We went a little later for brunch so probably about 12:30. You enter through the main lobby of the motel and we were greeted by the super friendly staff that said there was availability at the time (we just made it!) as it got real busy after. At that point she walked us over to Nookies where we walked into to the coolest, retroish diner vibe!!! Keep in mind this was December and it was cold and gray out but this place was definitely special! I could only imagine what it’s like in the Sunmer!!! The inside was pretty full (as it’s not that big) and we got the perfect seats! 2 seats right when you walk in at the counter! It was SO FUN as you can watch all the action as many of the dishes they are cooking in front of you behind the counter! It was tough to decide what to eat as it all looked so good so decided on the omelette with the salad (AMAZEEEE and usually I think omelettes tend to be boring BUT not this one)! I think there was a cheese in it but can’t recall. My hubs got the egg sandwich which he LOVED. And I of course began with a ROSE because why the heck not! 😂🙌🏻 All in all this place is a special gem that we will definitely come back to! We are newer to this area (bought in Laurel last year 😊) so so excited to try it out also during the Summer months. Either way if you are in the area be sure to check it out! Space is limited so opt for reservations to be sure you get a seat!! 💕😻💕😻💕😻...
Read moreBefore I even get into anything else, We need to Talk about the Chef, Finn. The man is one of the, no, actually he is THE best hospitality professional I have ever met in my life. I cannot praise him enough. I have never seen a chef so in love with the art of hospitality the way he is. Most chefs do not interact with guests the way he does. Also, the food here is the best food you will eat on Long Island. (It's probably some of the best food you will eat period) I stand firmly behind this. This is not the formulaic pedestrian menu with salmon, chicken, steak and a burger checking off the boxes to appeal to the generic masses. This is however, a symphony of incredible, delicious, dishes- stunningly executed. The food is extremely high level, yet also approachable. So if you are a person who wants fine dining quality food without the pomp and circumstance and pretense, this is the place for you. If you want to be in a trendy space that is also warm and welcoming this is the place for you. It is levels above anything else anywhere on both Northfork and The Southfork. It is also shockingly well priced. As a New York City transplant who lives with a trained chef, this is the only restaurant I actually feel is worth going out to eat within a 40 mile radius. You can taste how much the Chef loves what he does and how much he wants you to be there. I am done settling for less than that anywhere else, and being served low effort...
