Sophie’s rest is definitely a place to go if you want fresh and amazing cooked food. It’s definitely catered to locals rather than tourists, which is what we wanted. We were a party of six, four adults and two kids. We arrived around 7:15 and they had a table for us open. We would have preferred outdoor seating but they do not have any outdoor lighting. The place is super cute and comfortable. It feels as if the restaurant was created around the plans of an actual house. We sat in the dining area which felt like the porch, great lighting and the outside view. They had seating in the bar area as well. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. They do not have a kids menu but there are options for kids. For our kids we ordered the pizza that they shared and they loved it. It was thin crust and very cheesy. I do wish they had a plain penne for kids but it’s okay! Before I get into the adult food, I will say this. GET THE DIRTY MARTINI WITH GIN. I had one and it must have been the best one I had in a really long time. They even ask you want brand you want and they have it! Now onto the food! For an appetizer we all shared the stuffies, ceviche, and calamari. The show stealer was the ceviche. I wish they add more seafood than veggies because the variety and freshness of the seafood was incredibly delicious. I’m not sure if the calamari was fresh or frozen but it was damn good and NOT chewy. The stuffies were perfectly cooked and it was the second favorite of the table. My dinner was the lobster clam bake. Omfg. It is WORTH the $$$. The lobster is fresh and whole. The clams and mussels were a bit dry but the butter helped that. My kids ate the corn and the potatoes were boiled perfectly. The only thing that skeeved me a bit was that the shrimp weren’t deveined. My husband had the fish and chips and that was incredible as well. The fish melted in your mouth. Our guests had the fisherman’s platter and it was filled with deliciousness. We didn’t get dessert because we were stuffed but their options were definitely tempting.
The service was good. I felt like they are a bit understaffed or overwhelmed. We did wait a bit for food but the wait was worth it. I’d rather have fresh food that I would enjoy versus food that’s nuked in a microwave and served.
Definitely give this place a try if you are...
Read moreAte here last night, was a good causal eating spot..but not this time, I got really sick from the food and I normally can eat a variety of foods even if they are overcooked a little, but this tasted and smelled like burnt charcoal and something rancid in the scallop quesadilla..I kept thinking it was just my taste buds being slightly off from having a mint before I ate , and no light outside at night so I couldn't really see what I was eating. I was so run down from geting sick last night (horrible pains, nasua etc) I had to miss helping my friend today with a yard sale and saying good bye to her before she moved 😠, Basic food should not be this hard to make and so bad that it makes someone get very sick. Been going here for years and my friends always like it , so I go for them well it Def back fired on me...
Read moreCame to this house-converted-into-restaurant on Bayview Road for an early dinner on a Sunday as a party of three. We were seated right away in the formerly-patio, now-enclosed section of the restaurant. Two-sided menu with a lot of finger foods, some entrees, meat and seafood dishes, and a full service bar make for good meal. It can get a bit noisy during your meal because sound bounce off everything and everyone's conversation can be heard - whether you like it or not. Prices are a bit on the steep side of menu prices, but pretty standard for this part of Long Island. Plenty of tables and seating, with a large, free parking lot adjacent to...
