The firepits and pixnic tables scattered about the lawn near the food and bar pavillion make this a good place to socialky distance from other attendees while relaxing. We were there on the last weekend the outdoor area was open, they had extended due to the unexpected summer like reprieve of warmth in early November. As such, the tap selection was limited, but they offered $5 specials on what they had. The blueberry cider they make is crisp, dry and quite pleasant. I had hoped to get a bottle of the black currant cider to bring home, but was told they dont bottle their ciders to sell, they only serve them on tap at the winery. My friend was happy with the vanilla porter. The hour plus drive home kept us from exploring the wines-- something to look forward to for next time.
The food offerings at thw outside pavillion were limited as this was an unexpected weekend for staff and it had been a very busy weekend. Our group tried the pizza. The woodfired oven gave the otherwise medioxre pie its only rexeeming flavor; it tasted like frozen dough with a canned sauce with a smattering of toppings. Yhey were out of burgers, which we reputed to be quite good, so we got the parmesean garlic wings, macaroni and cheese, and a salad. The wings were well cookes, crispy outside but still juicy and tendet meat, and with plenty of sauce. The mac and cheese was on al dente soiral pasta which held the white cheddar cheese sauce well; a mild but tasty version. I only wish it had a bit more of the cheese sauce and a litgle creamier, as the pasta seemed to have absorbed much of it leaving it just slightly dry. The salad was simple but the veggies were crisp, cold, and fresh so we were pleased.
We sat in the semi enclosed pavllion where the musical entertainment and the football game on the giant tv made conversation slightly difficult. The amplificatiin of the music to reach out across the guest spread on the lawns meant shouting your drink and food orders, which I find even more difficult with masks. Staff wore masks, but it seemed guests didnt always remember to do so when moving around the grounds or between tables or seating areas. I hope the staff will offer more encouragement for guests to do so when they move to inside dining only for the winter as we would like to go back again and enjoy the lovely grounds and...
Read moreDuring a recent vacation, we had dinner and lunch at Colloca. The first experience was really good. The pear-gorgonzola pizza was great, as was the tomato and mozzarella sandwich. The regular cheese pizza was also very good. The second experience was unfortunately not as good. The Americano pizza with pepperoni and sausage was decent but not great. The hummus platter w/ veg was a disappointing assortment of average jarred "veggies" such as capers, gherkins, artichoke hearts, as well as some dried fruits like dates and apricots, which were delicious. The salad with fruits and nuts was really good, but the herb dressing was almost like a paste and didn't compliment the flavor profile of the salad very well.
The tasting room experience was disappointing. There is a decent-sized wine selection to choose from, but there were absolutely no sweet or semi-sweet wines, and the only semi-dry wine was sold out. The only options were dry wines, and the only one our group of 9 enjoyed was the sparkling Shiraz. I didn't notice any kind of food/snack component I see in many NY wineries. The property looks awesome. I imagine it's a great venue to host a large party or reception. But as a winery trip or dinner spot, I'm sorry to say we will not be making a...
Read moreThe grounds and buildings are nice, very picturesque, and it would be a nice venue for an event or wedding. The staff were all great and the atmosphere fun. Unfortunately, we had lunch there, and it was mediocre. The pizza was okay, it’s wood-fired, kind of light and bubbly but also crispy in a way that suggests there’s a lot of oil involved, and it was proportioned strangely with all the toppings in the center and a four inch wide ring of nothing but crust around the outside. I’d order the pear pizza again though. The “Sicilian Beef” sandwich was really disappointing. Picture a giant roll the size of a whole loaf of bread, with a handful of leftover chopped-up roast beef inside, the beef roast soaked in some kind of red oily pizza-flavored sauce that didn’t have much flavor to it. I assume their strategy is to overwhelm you with bread so that you don’t have a chance to pay attention to the beef inside. Not recommended. We did a wine tasting too. It’s the usual CNY assortment of sweet wines, some fruity and some tart, but they have a few decent dry wines including a Chardonnay, a couple of pinot noirs, and a modestly priced cab that seems to give you more than you paid for (the NY cab, not the...
