The Lily Pad — Restaurant in Town of Sumner

UPDATE: CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT after eating or drinking here. Our friends that were with us that night got double charged. The check was for $41.15. Her bank had charges for $40.15 and another for $41.15. She called her bank to report it and put a hold on the charges. They investigated and stopped one of the charges! If I could give 0 stars I would.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: We loved this place when it was Norm’s and even Outpost. I really really wanted to like it since it changed to “The Lily Pad”. I will give props to the cook, the food was good so I’ll start with that since it’s the only good thing I can say. Let that sink in: we won’t go back to a place that had good food. The rest of the experience was awful. Poor service (really “no service”), got our check wrong, was out of one of the appetizers (Mexican Cigars) but instead of telling us that, they substituted jalapeno poppers but when the bartender brought out the food she even called them “Mexican Cigars” when she set them on the table. I went up to the bar to let her know our friends got the wrong appetizer and her response was “I should’ve said something but we’re out of the Mexican Cigars so we’ve been substituting with poppers. But they’ll be discounted”. There was no discount; the bar had emptied out and nobody ever came back to check on the food, see if we need a refill or even bring us our check. The bar owner was there but he was drinking behind the bar. The bartender just got rude after her own mistakes and poor service and the owner did nothing to try to smooth it over. If he had even bothered to try, I may have considered giving it another chance. Those are just a few of the issues, I don’t feel like typing all of it out. The place even looks like it’s going downhill, only half the lights were working. I’m a huge supporter of small businesses and shopping local but this is one that I can honestly say I hope it goes out of business soon so someone else can buy it. We always loved going there when it was Norm’s, and even Outpost....

Tried to come here for dinner we hadn’t been before. We came in and sat down and after about 15 minutes asked the guy sitting in the table next to us if we order at the bar, he said “good luck service sucks”. I assumed he was crabby or something I know service workers work hard and are busy. Eventually my husband went up to the bar to ask for menus and ordered drinks. Soon after that the table next to us left without getting served that should have raised another red flag. We waited 15 or so more minutes while orders around us were being taken. My husband went back up to the bar to try to order, we really just wanted to eat and no one would even make eye contact with him. He stood at the bar for a good five minutes and he was just avoided. We just paid for our drinks and left. It was disappointing. A few ppl in there were in bikinis no cover ups so basically walking around in underwear so I just got an unsanitary vibe. Also it was so loud in there we couldn’t talk which it’s a bar so that’s not so much a complaint as much as an FYI. Went for a fish dinner. My husband ordered 3 pieces of fried Cod fries and clam chowder soup. I ordered 3 pieces of baked cod with veggies and clam chowder soup. We also ordered 2 brandy old fashions We received our first old fashions in about 10 minutes. At that time the waitress asked if we wanted our soup first or with our dinner. We said first about 6 minutes went by and we received our soup. Just soup no crackers or anything else. We waited for another 10 minutes which wasn’t too bad. And we received our dinner. The waitress asked if my husband would like another drink he said yes. We waited about another 10 minutes and asked if we could have butter for our rye bread. Never got it. I was able to eat my fish but it was soggy. My vegetables tasted sour and spoiled. My husband fish was soggy as well. He said he’s fry’s were ok. We were never asked how the food was. By the way after we were done eating what we could and the waitress took our dishes. We sat for about another 5-10 minutes and my husband finally got his second drink. All in all. Will never go back and unless you want to waste your time you should go somewhere else....
