I was both disappointed and surprised in this meal. I had read really good things about this place so my expectations were set pretty high. Immediately, as soon as appetizers arrived I was discouraged The Arancini app was at first very good but by the 2nd & 3rd bite it was apparent that it was too dry and too salty.
The bread they served tasted like yesterday's leftover. It wasn't light and airy like an Italian bread but dense and heavy. No flavor.
The same for the fried calamari. Although it was cooked well the coating they they used had way too much flour and salt. This could've been a winner but it came up short.
The baked rigatoni was also dry and lacked any real flavor. There was minimal sauce and cheese. It was a very bland dish. A true disappointment at a pasta dish priced at $27
The bright side to the whole meal was the Tuscan salad. The greens were fresh, the chicken seasoned well and the addition of the grapes, blueberries, candied walnuts and goat cheese made this salad a winner. Kudos to the chef on this creation. Really good!
I'd like to say that I found another favorite restaurant but I highly doubt that I'd be back. The food was mediocre and not the quality that one should expect at the price point that they charge.
I know they've been around a long time and have a good following but maybe my time traveling and being a real foodie gave me too many great places to compare them too. I haven't given up on finding fantastic new places in...
Read moreWe've been to the Stallion dozens of time when visiting the area (circa 2002). The food and service has been consistently excellent until the last couple of years. Now it's hit or miss depending on who is in the kitchen and who your server is. Last night (12/26/19) it was a big miss for some of our party of five. One in our party returned his entire steak entrée because it was not served hot. I ordered my N.Y.strip steak medium rare (warm red center) but it was served closer to medium well (cooked through), was tough to the chew and lacked seasoning. My wife tried a bite and agreed with my opinion. My side of linguine aglio e olio was cold and was returned for reheating in a skillet- it returned overcooked with little evidence of EVO and garlic. A fresh remake produced the same bland, tasteless dish. Back to the steak. Our server, Kelly, told me after conferring with the owner, Sal, that the steak was "perfect" (in effect, telling me my culinary conclusions were wrong). She delivered her message with a disdainful look and tone and never offered to cook a new steak. I was not charged for the steak, but would have preferred the opportunity to give Sal first hand feedback. For whatever reason, he elected not to talk with an unhappy customer. Perhaps he had more important matters...
Read moreWe are from our of town and this place was recommended to us to celebrate my wife's birthday. First off, everyone we saw leaving the restraunt had a doggy bag as they left and we discovered why later. We were seated and had to ask for a drink menu. Our meals came with a side salad. When the salads came out they were drenched in salad dressing. Our meals came out and the portions were heavy. There was no presentation on the plate at all. I got the Pork Medallions with mashed potatoes. It looked like they just through the potatoes on the plate, put the medallions on top and the covered it in the Marsala sauce. My wife got Steak Medallions Oscar and hers came with Asparagus and they also put the vegetable of the day which was green beans and squash. Again, no presentation on her plate, just food everywhere....like a diner. Now after we had our meal, our waitress forgot about us as we sat there with empty glasses and food that needed to be boxed up. There was another waitress that spotted us and came over to give us a box. Finally, our waitress came back, but we already had the box. She never offered a desert menu or did anything special for my wife, so if she got a horrible...
