We’ve been customers for years. Made sure to support them during the pandemic. Even though they are a bit annoying because they seem to want a medal for being local centric.
My wife suggested to have our family go there to celebrate her 80th birthday. I made reservations. Was told that because we were over 6 people - everyone - even kids - were $65 - prix fixe.
I agreed. Made the reservation. Called the family. Told the wife.
The Grange called back. Cancelled our reservation. There was a bigger party coming in after us and we seemed to be in the way.
They profess to treasure local purveyors- but they sure don’t care about local clients.. and the faint sorry - but not really sorry - reinforced the condescension.
So if you want to eat and drink local. Go to Samaki and buy the fish yourself. Go to Drowned Lands or Rushin Duck and enjoy a snack and beer. All these places will make you feel welcome / and you’ll have a wider selection of great local products - divorced from unwarranted attitude.
We went to another restaurant.
I don’t know where they sourced their ingredients - but they seemed genuinely happy to have us over to celebrate our family milestone.
I believe in celebrating and supporting neighbors- so it pains me when I have to castigate the folks at the Grange who have allowed their heads to grow too big for their faux hipster knit hats.
Dear Jim.
Thanks for answering. I know and appreciate the challenges of what you are trying to do
At the time we would have been eating in your restaurant-
the projector in our little community cinema decided to fail-
in the middle of a packed screening for a local director.
I couldn’t fix it - im not so smart - but i personally called the director- personally apologized- made sure she was comfortable with arrangements to rescreen- and have been checking with the tech who’s fixing it every 30 minutes.

Read moreAbout a month ago, I made reservations at The Grange in New York for our family and two additional families we were hosting. As we don’t live in the area, choosing a restaurant for such an important outing was difficult.
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm, attentive service that made us feel right at home. The staff were accommodating. Even with a full house and tables that are admittedly a bit snug, the atmosphere was inviting, lively, and full of character, making it easy to overlook the space constraints.
The food was, without a doubt, the highlight of the night. Every dish was expertly prepared, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. From appetizers to desserts, each plate showcased the quality and care that The Grange is known for. It’s rare to find a restaurant where everyone at the table is equally impressed, but that was certainly the case here.
What sets The Grange apart is its ability to deliver a truly exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between refined and relaxed, making it a fantastic choice for both special occasions and casual outings. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is the kind of place that makes you want to come back again.
In short, The Grange offered us an excellent dining experience. I give it five stars without hesitation and highly recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality food, outstanding service, and a memorable...
Read moreOur first time coming here but definitely won't be our last! Yes, they are currently only seating outdoors and the weather will play a big role in your experience overall so know this going in. The seating is very limited so reservations are not only a MUST but also very strict. They take your credit card to hold your reservation and charge you $25/person for no shows. In reality, this is more than fair and if enough people skip their reservation, this place would be out of business quick. Now for the 5 stars.... The food was simply the best we've had in a very long time. We moved to the area a little over a year ago and we both work in the NYC restaurant business. We're not "food snobs" but know good food when we see, smell and taste it. This place if truly fine dining at very reasonable prices. The portions are also big enough whereas you'll probably kick yourself for not saving room for desert (which for us was the apple crisp with homemade ice cream). It was as good as it sounds. Everything from the beer/wine to the warm bread to the straight-from-the-farm salad to the oysters and to the main dishes was absolutely fantastic! Also, lets not forget the friendly and devoted server. I don't think I've ever used "devoted" to descibe a server before, I guess it never really applied until now. She was extremely involved in making sure our diner was as perfect as...
