Okay, here it goes. First off, this is not my first time at Charlotte’s. Maybe close to ten years ago. It was quite nice, but pricey. I treated my mother and her two friends to a 2:00 PM meal on Palm Sunday. Reservations were made last week. We were seated at a table in the main dining room just off the parking lot. That’s the entrance BTW, not the big front door. It was locked. I ordered the chicken and sausage Gumbo. Mom ordered White shrimp pasta Alfredo, her friend’s got the grilled chicken sandwich off the brunch menu and her mother got the pork gravy and biscuits with scrambled eggs. It took forty minutes for our food to come to the table. The jasmine rice in the center of my plate was rock hard in the form of a cup. I could not break it apart. The friend’s mother’s eggs were cold. My Mom’s shrimp and pasta were lukewarm. The chicken sandwich appeared to be without incident. I informed the older woman who I’d suppose was the closest thing to a manager about this. “Do you want me to take back the eggs and warm them up for you?” Warm up eggs, at these prices? You cook up another plate of eggs. You’re kidding me right? The rice was greeted with a flat stare. It seemed like the staff, two young girls and this manager walked about but studiously avoided eye contact. You almost had to grab them to get their attention. The left over food was not offered to go in any fashion. The bill came on a tablet with four rather generous tip options just a tap away. I informed the manager there would be a cash tip. She pointed to the rather small smal “no tip” option at the bottom. $168 and I left a $25 cash tip that frankly, was too much. It seems that during the pandemic many of these places, for whatever reasons, are shadows of their former selves. Not going back again. (We were not asked how the meal was, begged for coffee refills, nothing about come again. Perhaps relief that we were leaving. Strange atmosphere. No music. I got the impression they were short...
Read moreCharlotte's is not simply fine dining, it's an experience. The venue is simply beautiful. If you are looking for someplace to have a wedding, this would be on top of my list although I'd expect to pay top dollar. They have a beautiful banquet room for weddings along with another large dining room for larger, private, gatherings But back to our experience.
They start you out with warm, fresh bread. The waitress apologized that they had left the bread in the oven a bit too long and it was a bit crispy. She didn't want us to wait and said fresh bread would be on the way. Shortly after we started on the crispy bread, she brought out the properly warmed bread. We loved both!
We then had their filet mignon and their double cut pork chop. Both were absolutely mouth watering. The presentation was in a league of its own. It looked so nice I didn't want to eat it. But once I got started I couldn't stop. It was beyond delicious. Dare I say it ranks among my top 5 restaurants of all time.
For dessert we had the homemade berry sorbet and the flowerless chocolate cake. Again, out of this world with a presentation to match.
The restaurant has a large, cozy, fireplace, beautiful accent lighting, French doors and beamed ceilings. The same is true for the bar area. It's really a site to behold. If you want to REALLY impress someone on a first date, take them here. This is an excellent anniversary restaurant as well. I'm using these as examples as this is not the kind of restaurant one could afford to go to everyday. It's not crazy expensive, but certainly up there yet worth every penny.
I do not like going to the same restaurant twice, but this is one I will absolutely revisit. Charlotte's gets my highest...
Read moreWe had planned our visit to this restaurant for several weeks. However, they had mixed our preferred table request, which although disappointing was not tragic. The staff were attentive, but the wine was served poorly and attention to detail such as providing the required cutlery was lacking. The food was good but not equal to the price being charged. We asked at the point of ordering that the main course not be prepared until we had finished the appetizers as we were in no rush, (which seemed contrary to the whol approach of the Restaurant’s staff who seemed to want us to watch the clock) however when the main Course was served it was obvious it had been sitting under a warmer for good while. The bread was the best aspect. We discussed the matter with the senior waitress and she was very defensive and not considerate to our concerns. She did then send over who we presume was the owner as we paid the bill and she offered us s glass of champagne which turned out to be fizzy very sweet wine not a good offering. So overall just ok, certainly not up to the promoted standards therefore unlikely to return, which is disappointing as we looking for good local spot to designate as our go...
