OK, here is the deal. It is an island, obviously, with limited options of dining out. Therefore you have to accept that you get what you get. Don't be too picky BUT: do ask staff to give you an estimate on how long it will take for your food to be ready. When we were there they were understaffed, not only on the floor but in the kitchen too. Average time for food orders was almost an hour. They failed to communicate it with their customers and people started walking up to them asking about their orders, we ended up doing the same. You ask why the hassle apart from the fact that you are hungry. Unless you stay on the island, you need to catch your ferry back to the mainland. We freaked out when we saw the long queues for the return ferry as soon as we offboarded. I believe the last ferry leaves at 9:45 and you need to keep that in mind. Apart from the logistics, the lawyer, the white fish that is from the island, we ordered was pretty good. I had mine with corn and baked potatoes. My company ordered it fried and not broiled which they mixed up but they got him another order no problem. Problem was that we had to wait for that too, so all in all it was a lot of waiting. Draft beer was very flat and tasted odd, so asked for a bottle instead. The place itself is very cosy and homey - and unless you are stretched for time, you...
Read moreAfter getting off the ferry, we looked for a highly rated spot for dinner before we went to our cabin to start our weekend. The waiter could not hear us over the loudness of the band (which irritated me more the longer we stayed), and also could not seem to understand that we did not want cheese, tomatoes, and onions on a salad, which made us think that the salad came pre-mixed in a bag, which was not the case since all of the ingredients came placed on top of the salad. Also, the waiter forgot the salad dressing, which took another 15 minutes to get due to him staying out of ear shot and out of sight. He also gave my wife the wrong canned drink, which was already opened when brought to us. Aside from a salad for our daughter and our drinks, the only food we ordered were chicken strips and fish. We waited 45 minutes for these to finally get to our table, which tasted fine, not better than any bar food we've had. We could not get out of there fast enough and asked for the check before we were even finished with our food. This place soured our start to a vacation to place everyone has spoken very highly of, so I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Washington Island for...
Read moreThe Granary is the best dinner date spot on the island in my opinion; it offers panoramic views of silos and various farm machinery and gorgeous wood finish indoors. It’s like looking at a really neat museum exhibit while you eat. As far as the food goes, I can’t say enough about it. I usually get the blackened whitefish dinner with potatoes and green beans. I don’t know what they do to the green beans, but they come with a slight char on them and seasoned to perfection, nice and firm, not mushy. And marble rye bread with butter. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it so let me move on to the service. The staff is extremely attentive, professional, and accurate despite ongoing global staffing shortages. I have never waited longer than 15 minutes for my food from ordering even during peak hours. To top it off, I had a drink there once and got to hear Hans Koyen sing and play his original song, Strange Times, behind the bar after he made everyone drinks. It was incredible. The song is featured on the island collab album Hold The Boat if you’re interested in listening, but I suggest hearing it live if you get the opportunity. 10/10 well done this season KK Fiske, and thank you for all...
