I was super excited to try this place after seeing all the great reviews. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed at the overall quality. I worked in food service in my younger years both in fine dining and also diners. One of my pet peeves is when you walk into a restaurant and there are servers and employees standing around but no one acknowledges you. There was a bar to the right and a little counter area to the left. I wasn’t sure if that area was only for the servers so I was hesitant to go over there. There were multiple people standing over there and it took awhile for sometimes acknowledge me. Sometimes at restaurants you pick up your to-go order at the bar so I wasn’t sure. I ordered a battered fish fry with French fries and a side salad. My salad was composed of all the bottom stalks of the romaine lettuce. It was all the white and yellow ends and there was not a single piece of green leafy lettuce in it. I did not receive the croutons that were supposed to come with it. The croutons were not a huge deal but the ends of the romaine were very bitter. I don’t mind the bottom parts as long as there are some actual green leafy lettuce as well. The fish fry was delicious! It was quite soggy on the bottom but that’s to be expected on a to go order. The taste and freshness was amazing though. I was very disgusted by the French fries though. It looked like someone emptied the fryer basket at the end of the night into my to go box. It was filled with little crispy crumbs and tiny pieces of fries at various stages of cooking. My son got a burger and fries and he enjoyed his meal. We also ordered clam chowder. The chowder was definitely disappointing for the price. It was $9 for each cup of soup. One of our to-go containers was filled about 50% but the soup was extremely runny almost as if they had run out and added cream or milk to make it go farther. The other container was a little over half full and super thick which is typically how chowder is served in this area. The chowder had a very odd flavor that I couldn’t quite figure out. Maybe a vermouth or wine was added but it just wasn’t our favorite. Lastly, we ordered the double order of cannolis. When I picked up the food the cannolis were in the fridge but when we opened up the container in the car, the filling was all melted out and runny. I’ve never seen a cannoli with that consistency. It was almost the consistency of melted ice cream. I never write reviews but I felt as though the restaurant could use the constructed criticism. I forgot to take pictures of the salad and the cannoli but I’ve attached pictures of the...
Read moreToday was my first experience at Mama Lor's. I was really excited to try it, as family members have said good things about it. I would have tried sooner but I don't reside in the area.
We arrived about 11:45 on a Sunday. It was busy as expected and we were told 20-25 minute wait. I put my name in for a party of 3. We waited patiently and time passed...no biggie.....but towards the end of our wait we noticed that 2 parties who arrived after us (party of 5 and party of 3) were called before us. They don't have reservations or call ahead. They clearly arrived after us. The hostess was sweet and seemed to be a good worker (redhead) but she was very timid and not assertive when she called people's names. I went up and advised her about the seating issue and they then seated us.
We were seated in the way back in what appeared to be a 3 season room. I'm sure it would've been cold if they didn't have large industrial heaters blowing in there...which actually made it quite hot. I'm guessing 78 degrees. My stepmom and I are usually cold and it was too warm for us.
The food took a while and we didn't see our server Joey very often, but he was very nice when we did see him. Another person brought the food out and my sister's toast went sliding off her plate onto the concrete floor when the kid went to set it down on our table... No problem... Accidents happen and he said he would bring out fresh toast...he wasn't gone very long and brought out some cold, hard toast. My stepmom's toast was cold and hard. Mine was luke warm. In Mama Lor's defense, we didn't bring this to their attention because we honestly didn't want to wait longer. So we didn't give them a chance to "make it right." Perhaps going forward they will make sure the toast is fresh when it goes out.
When the food arrived, I requested Frank's hot sauce. The server left and brought back what is pictured above. Completely unacceptable and disgusting! The cap and the bottle were covered with dust and other random dirty particles as well as some dried hot sauce.
As far as the omelets, they were OUTSTANDING in appearance and hot and delicious!! I would highly recommend the Mediterranean omelette. My sister had a special daily omelet with spinach, tomato, and parmesan. She said her omelette was also delicious. The sauteed potatoes were good with the exception of some burnt pieces.
This was a mixed review. I will give Mama another try when I'm back in town because the omelette...
Read moreWent for my birthday on a Saturday…. The claim to fame for Saturday ONLY is prime rib. I arrived before 6pm, and I requested the matre D cut of prime rib, and was informed they were already out of stock of any type of prime rib…. Mind you they close at 9pm on Saturdays and there ONLY DAY ANYONE CAN GET PRIME RIB IS ONLY ON SATURDAY…… I settled for strip stake cooked medium rare which comes with mash & “ vegetables” which was only 3 pieces of broccoli……. Stake arrived and BEYOND bland not a single lick of salt or pepper , mash was made in only a way I can describe that was prepared for a diabetic …. Absolutely zero salt, zero pepper, nor a lick of salted butter….. as for the broccoli it arrived so hard and undercooked, it felt like I was eating tough beef jerky. For a place that has a claim to fame on SPECIFIC days of foods, that comes at premium prices, and to run out of inventory FOR THE ONLY DAY YOU SERVE THESE SPECIFIC DISHES, is absolutely unacceptable and extremely underwhelming. Disregard it’s my birthday and I chose to come to this establishment to celebrate my birthday ( yes my plain diabetic friendly strip steak came with a candle in a potato spud, yay happy birthday!)
The fact my experience was extremely underwhelming and nothing I wanted was available and I had to settle for some “runner up “ option was BEYOND a let down, NOT just for me but for my wife who order a the chicken parmigiana, which arrived cold and the sauce ontop of the pasta was cold & bland.
For the both of us having to spend $95 for A absolutely DISAPPOINTMENT of a meal to celebrate a birthday, is extremely unfortunate that mama Lor’s is somehow a place that is a high end restaurant or some sort of premium place to get exclusive food on specific days is an absolute sham!
My wife & I can out cook your best chef, and I hope the owner reads and calls us out. Because WE WILL GLADLY SHOW UP AND OUTCOOK ANYONE YOU HAVE ON STAFF!
SHAME ON...
