My husband visited the Sunset Bar and Grill a week ago with a couple of friends; rant and raved about how good the wings were. He said the manager came around asking guests how everything was â nice touch. When my husbandâs group was skipped over he of course was the one to speak up and call the manager out and they hit it off from there. During the course of their dinner the manager came around a few more times. At one point when the group expressed how good the service and food was, the manager asked them to write a review. My husband explained that he was not the writer, but his wife was and heâd gladly bring her for a visit soon.
A couple weeks later my husband suggested we go. We had our 20 month old in tow. It was a Tuesday late afternoon. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Since it was a beautiful day we sat outside on the deck. Again, the same manger came around greeting guests including us. We ordered the steamers as an appetizer, I had the Blue Cheese Burger Wedge salad and my husband ordered a burger. We both requested our burgers be cooked to âmediumâ doneness. The steamers were overcooked. They were like chewing pieces of rubber â huge disappointment. Looking forward to our entrees since we were starving from our long ride to the area, we were dismayed by not one but both our burgers being cooked to well done. I was also dissatisfied with the content of my salad. Not a âwedgeâ of lettuce came but a slab of the lettuce head. The menu read âbacon blue cheese crumbles topped with a burger and creamy blue cheeseâ which I interpreted this to mean bits of bacon and blue cheese throughout the salad. However, two strips of bacon came on top of the burger instead. The size of the salad was rather small given the price point of $15 for the plate. I expected more. The restaurant must purchase very expensive blue cheese to accommodate the price tag since all the other ingredients run cheap. My husband was otherwise satisfied with his meal other than the overcooked burger. The fresh cut fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. When the waitress came back to check on us, my husband notified her of the discrepancy in our order. Although very polite, it felt like she just brushed us off by giving a quick, âsorry about thatâ and taking off.
Upon wrapping up our meal our son was getting a bit restless and wanted to walk around. My husband ran into the manager again. Since it seemed our waitress didnât hear our concerns he felt compelled to notify the manager. As business owners ourselves, we know firsthand that if you donât know about a problem, you donât have an opportunity to fix it. When my husband started conveying to the manger that the meal was good but⌠the manager interjected stating to the effect, âoh, your burgers were overcooked. You could have sent them back.â My husband explained that we were sitting with a toddler and didnât have time to wait for a second plating of our food. I was actually quite put off by the remark since it should be the restaurantâs expectation to cook meals to the customerâs satisfaction THE FIRST TIME. To expect customerâs to simply send back plates of food when done incorrectly is a very poor business practice especially since this venue appears to want to be a bit higher end. In addition, for the manager to already know about our problem told me either, 1. The waitress already advised him and he didnât feel the need to come and apologize and see how he could rectify it; or, 2. The chef is known for overcooking food. Either way, this was a very unexpected disappointment with our visit.
I suspect this might have been an âoffâ day for the crew given the slew of other stellar customer reviews. Weâll revisit at some point to give them another chance.
6/18/18 edit: our neighbors went yesterday and one ordered a burger medium rare. It came out well done. It's apparent the kitchen staff need some education on how to...
Read moreAlways a go to. Seafood pots rock, from basic to maximum loaded! I've had it all( just about). I'm updating this review and next time there will be pics, but we had such a good time I forgot.
On this recent visit no live music but beautiful weather abounded, as we sat outside in a shaded area. Locals sailing and enjoying the view, as were we.
Meeting up with my guests was easy. They enjoyed the tranquil ride down Rt 18 ( Lake road), back to this hot spot.
I orderd the crispy calamari on a Thai salad with sweet chili sauce and peanuts- spot on delicious. We also orderd some steamer clams that were succulent. (apps) -that we all split.
That calamari was crisp and tender, not rubbery like some places. My two guests had Sunsets "Jerk Chicken Sandwich", with pineapple salsa and carribean aioli.
Both guests also split a mango/strawberry salad: mango, strawberries, red onion, and coconut coated cashews( crunchy- crisp tasty? Yes!) over some field greens, with a honey vinagrette.I had to taste-yup!
And yes I shared some of my sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries (add $3, for these heavenly baes, or a side salad) well seasoned and sweet. All of the sandwiches come with fresh cut fries and a pickle...And those fries were tasty too.
I had the Sunset "Steak Sandwich", a favorite of mine.
Thin sliced melt in your mouth ribeye, with carmelized onions( I always order extra onions), all melded with melted American cheese on a toasted roll. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, good!
Outstanding is the best word to describe my palatial experience.
We finished with one of six specialty desserts, care of the famous Village Bake Shop from historic Lewiston, NY- my hometown.
I chose for us one slice each of key lime cheesecake and btw, all of these desserts are top notch.(* In house made Creme Brulee) Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!
Sunset Bar&Grill is completely renovated, with a breathtaking interior you can view on their website. The staff was friendly but busy, never hovering, tactful and competent.
This venue features eclectic and standard drink options, along with great live music you can dance to as well. (Check their website for band listings- I forgot)
This a great place for family, a lunch date, or an evening rendezvous as was ours.
Lunch/dinner and drinks, at moderate seasonal pricing.
This was a special ococcasion, so I went overboard on the drinks/eats for my guests- but I've had dinner for two and drinks, and that was quite reasonable.
Even if dining alone you'll find fair pricing, and great company!
Summers here and the time is right " For Dancin' in the Streets" at this gorgeous, well kept harbor gem.
I meet people from around the world here. Wilson NY's Sunset Bar&Grill is my summer destiation. I hope you willđ it too.
Contact the management, for your big or small gathering. They have outstanding and customizable banquet/buffet options.
Many I know have held their bridal showers, and intimate parties, along with unique corporate gatherings. Why? ...It's all good.
Such a beautiful and scenic harbor view.
There's something here to tempt the palate of your eyes, ears, and taste alike.

Read moreWhere to start... Me and my girlfriend Love to try new places especially when they come recommended from friends. This was one of those places. We made reservations for this past saturday and were seated promptly. This is the only Good thing that happened amd where it all started going down hill. It took maybe 15 minutes for us to get our first round of drinks. All were basic soda and beer, Nothing fancy. At this time we were not ready to order food and the waitress said she would be back. 20+ minutes went by before she came back and we got to order our food. By then everyone needed another soda and it took a while to get this round.. Appetizer took 30 minutes to get to the table from when we ordered it and it was only the clam strips, nothing too fancy or time consuming. Dinner finally arrived, no drinks in between were served.. 5 of the 6 of us got food, the 6th person had to wait an additional 10 minutes for her dinner to come out. 2 of the plates were the sunrise steak and cheese. 1 was half cooked meat and actually made the top bun soggy with blood (Not a bunch but enough to notice) there was NO seasoning on the meat at all on either one and neither of them were even hot. Everyones fries were cold except the person who waited the 10 extra minutes for her meal. By this point another 15 minutes or so went by without our waitress coming back by so we could ask for salt and pepper and we all needed another round of drinks by then.. 8 minutes goes by and 5 of the 6 people got their drinks and i had to wait another 6 minutes for my beer i ordered. Overall No no one in our 6 person party was happy about the service or the food. Hopefully no one else experiences anything like we did. Some of our party drove in from as far as cheektowaga, the rest came from niagara falls. Needless to say we will Not be returning to this restaurant every again. Top to bottom a bad experience. 2 thumbs down đđ
EDIT: the owners reached out to me and sent me a gift card which Most other establishments Wont do. So because of that we are willing to give this place another try. Thank you. We will leave a new review after our next visit..
EDIT: 2nd trip here wasnt that much better. Our waitress Brandi served other people first who came in after us. The other server outside had to tell our server to take our order. Not a ton of people were there and it was still a long wait between drinks. Some people were told about the specials, we were not one of them. We had to ask if we could get drinks while we looked at the menu. The other server who was there was Amazing to all her tables. Her name was Brooke. She was very consistent. We might have had a a better experience if she was our server. We didn't use our gift card, we ate our appetizers, paid and left. Hopefully anyone else visiting here doesnt receive this...
