Loved this bar! In town for the Todd Rundgren show at the adjacent Bearsville Theater and this was perfect for a couple of cocktails before the show, we really liked the vibe, music, & people. I could see hangin' here on any non-show night if I lived closer.
One thing: they had a drink menu that actually had a Boulevardier on it, impressive I thought. However, they listed it as a Bourbon based drink and it most definitely is NOT made with Bourbon as it is a RYE drink. So this prompted a quick & fun discussion with the woman bartending & running the busy bar, and she didn't disagree and ran through a list of Rye Whiskeys that they had in stock, could easily make this (properly) with Rye. Nice knowledge of whiskeys, obviously a pro bartender, though I didn't get the impression that this would be communicated to those that may give a crap enough to fix it, she was just busy with running her bar and she was really great at it. Funny thing, the guy on the next barstool ordered a Rye and he also agreed that Bourbon is definitely not part of a Boulevardier, maybe an option if you don't want Rye, though that drink is NOT a Bourbon drink.
Anyway, still loved the place, the bartender, the vibe, & hope to return whenever we're back in Woodstock. I just think that a bar (they're in the cocktail & spirits business after all) shouldn't incorrectly list cocktails on their own menu. I mean, you wouldn't make a Mule with Gin, would you? Wouldn't make a Rusty Nail or Rob Roy with...
Read moreEntered this establishment on a Saturday afternoon, the place was empty except for two gentlemen on the far side of the bar. My aunt and I were greeted by no one as the bartender just stood behind the bar while the owner was sitting in a corner seat eating her lunch. My aunt was a fan old the old Tinker street tavern that used to be in town. I never heard of it because it was not of my generation. My aunt asked the bartender if their was any relation or reference to the previous Tavern. A woman sitting at the end of the bar eating some kind of salad stated that their was no relation to the old Tavern but my aunt disagreed.. something to do with the wooden black bear statue sitting on the back of the bar wearing a hula and other vibe like objects thorough out the bar. The woman yelled well this is my bar and I think I would know what I named my bar after. So my aunt looked at me and I looked at her and we headed out of the door. We headed to another place to have drinks down the street and were speaking with some residents about our experience. One guy referred to that place as an overrated Woodstock dive bar trying to live off the old name. Funny, I didn’t know their was such a thing as a dive bar...
Read moreWent in for a drink before a show at Bearsville. We were VERY CONFUSED about where to enter. It was dark and freezing out. The door we assumed was the way to get in said "Back door" on it. So, we tried every other door.....nope all locked. Finally in through the back door.
Not really a warm welcome when we approached the bar. Honestly, I could see the woman bartender worked there. She was hustling around. The dude.....wasn't super sure he worked there. In any case...ordered two bourbons on the rocks.
When we were done and went to close out tab....two "martini" charges for a total of $6 was on there. It then said "additional" tip.
We did not get martinis Additional tip?
We left and wished we asked about the charge but our friends came and we had to boogie to the show.
The prices for bar food were outrageous as well. We didn't get food.
We...
