Ok, well growing up in a German neighborhood and marrying into a German family predisposes me to what may be authentic and or enjoyable German food. Also combined with a recent pilgrimage to Germany in 19'... They say food has the ability to invoke memories, from the scents to the taste buds... And I'll have to agree!
I'll say Nadine's was just OK, but nothing to invoke reminiscing, nothing that stood out and shouted YEAH, that's it!!! Gimme more!
Nothing was bad, but nothing rock the socks off either. The Sauerbraten was dry and not tasty, the sauce lacked soul, no depth and not rich at all. Most Sauerbraten gravies I've had are dark, rich, tasty. This was orange and light, lacking much taste. It did nothing to quench the dryness of the meat. The Red Cabbage was much the same, not much to write about.
The special if the day was Rindsrouladen, this was much better and had a wonderful taste and hitting some old home notes. Maybe this should be on the main menu? Was good and I should have ordered this dish for myself. Appetizers were ok, again - just ok, and it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time for drinks to be served when the restaurant didn't appear overly taxed with patrons at the time. Something that must effect their bottom line with the usual markup on alcoholic beverages. I don't believe in hovering service, but untimely service is a management issue. All in all, it was borderline acceptable.
I don't usually give such extensive reviews, but I felt this was needed as I so looked forward to it and had high hopes of finding a decent German food establishment, but it seems my search has not ended.
I wish the best of...
Read moreThis was my second time eating at Nadine's. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sauerbraten on my first visit. The establishment was small, and the servers were both knowledgeable and courtious. I looked forward to going back. However, my second visit proved to be much different. After finding a piece of plastic in my meal, we told a server that came over to check on us. She acknowledged the plastic, apologized, and left to inform the owner. She returned a few minuites later, telling us that they had dropped the cost of my meal from the bill. She said that they would be having a conversation with the kitchen, and apologized once more. She sorted our bill shortly after and we went on our way. My issue is that while all of this occured, the owner (who was identified by the server) was sat on a stool at the bar. Instead of coming over to our table, he sent his waitress. It seemed as though he could not be bothered. While this situation was handled well in every other regard, the sheer lack of professionalisim from the owner overshadows every other aspesct that was handled with courtesy. An acknowledgement and apology would have gone a long way, and some would even consider it to be the bare minimum response. In such an intimate atmosphere, you wouldn't think this to be the case. I understand that people can have a bad day and that mistakes can happen, but I struggle to find an excuse to fail to acknowledge and address such a catastrophic mistake from the kitchen. It would have taken less time than it did for me to write...
Read moreWow was I embarrassed to suggest this place.
Let me preface this by saying the food is good but this is where any praise ends.
I have been here a few times and unfortunately I don’t think we will be back… not because of the food or prices but because of the service, policies and excuses.
We made a reservation and was seated… we waited literally an hour and 15 minutes for our food. With a bunch of bad justifications like “ it(the wait )was even longer last weekend, people where leaving before getting their order.” Obviously if people are averaging over an hour for their food consistently, change is needed like take less people or hire more staff.
The prices are high but thats a lesser issue. Some of the policies here rubbed us the wrong way. The fact they have a cash vs credit price for everything is ridiculous for what they are charging. If you want to split a plate like we did it’s an additional 6 dollars. We have a child and they don’t have a kid’s menu so I split my meal with my son and was charged extra for doing so on top of the hour plus wait we endured.
We couldn’t have separate checks for two parties “because it was too difficult to do”. Bad policies, long waits with bad excuses/justifications with surcharges and no deductions for awful service.
My entire ride back i felt embarrassed for suggesting the place. Also if you are looking for a staple like potato pancakes they dont have it. They do have kangaroo and 9 dollar...
