Seafood Ketch, thank you for visiting me every night in my dreams. It always seems to start as a gentle fog lifts and reveals the nearby lobster boats and your wicked mint sunset views over Bass Harbor. I am suddenly whisked away by the smell of some ever-so-tasty vittles being cooked up at this quietside gem, known by pirate folklore as the legendary "Seafood Ketch." The crew of amazing staff and servers take me hostage with their warmth and kindness asking to seat me wherever I would like. Me thinks to meself, the outdoor dining area is quite magnificent, but today... today I dine at the newly built bar for a little HHH (aka Hannah's Happy Hour) where truthly tales be told that she concocts some of the finest spirits on this here island and pours up some dank and frothy local brews. The frosty cold beverages flow and it's time for me to order. I'm partial to the fried clams, which are divine, but in every dream it changes. Sometimes, I ketch myself yearning for some fresh lobstah, or sometimes a wicked juicy Black Angus Burger with Ketch Fries. Other times, I have to full out send-it and order a plethora of delicious items off their epic menu. From the mouth-watering Pan Seared Scallops and their Baked Lobster Seafood Casserole, to the heavenly Baked Stuffed Haddock and the garlic-buttery awesomeness of their Shrimp Scampi, every delectable bite gives me all the feels. This taste bud euphoria of joy suddenly wakes me. Wait, this was not a dream at all. I was actually here at the Seafood Ketch being served freshly baked bread, ice cold brewskis, luscious seafood selections, and decadent desserts at Ryan and Paige's legendary, must-visit restaurant in Bass Harbor this whole time!! So, if you evah ketch yourself feeling all stove up, hustle on ovah to the backside and give the Seafood Ketch a whirl, bubs!! Tell them some husky-petite guy sentcha, you can thank me later......
Read moreSomehow, I keep getting ropped into going here despite my best intentions not to and I swear it's a different excuse or story every time I come here, or even contemplate coming here. I only had one good meal here back in 2018. In 2021, I called over to get a table around 7pm and the excuse to why I couldn't get seated was that the kitchen was closing early for staff issues. Last year, I called over to get a table around 7pm again and the excuse to why I couldn't get seated this time was that they were out of food. Now in 2024, I went there on Sunday night. I called over at 630 and was told last seating was going to be at 730. Got there around 715 and was told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. Okay, fine no big deal. We are late eaters but did ask if we could sit outside. We were told No because it was too cold, at about 62 degrees outside. We got drinks at the bar and proceeded to sit at some outside tables until the table became ready. After 30 minutes, the host came over and said it would be another 30 minutes but we could now be permitted to sit outside due to the wait. Why would you change your mind and not let us sit here originally? We got seated inside about 15 minutes later. Waitress not overly friendly and the food was beyond awful. Soup appetizers had no flavor and all came out cold. Clearly canned stuff cooked by Chef Mic(rowave) as it was not hot at all and had cold spots throughout. I had the seared scallops. Again, not hot and probably another special from Chef Mic. They had no flavor or seasoning and were greasy as all heck. Truly disgusting. My friend's stuffed haddock was cold and a small portion and again lacked any sort of flavor. Better restaurant in the area to go to would be Cafe Drydock. Stay away from the Ketch, not worth the money. Worst $89...
Read moreSeafood Ketch was such a great find! The food was absolutely over the top delicious. The Stuffed Mushrooms were phenomenal with the individual flavors of the oil, mushroom, and seafood stuffing mix standing out individually as well as blending wonderfully.
I got the Captains Seafood Platter and everything was freshly cooked and delicious.
Our one issue was with the service from our waitress. While she was nice, the amount of time it took for our food to come out was ridiculous. There was one table beside ourselves when we arrived at 4:30 pm. We placed our order at 4:40/4:45. It then took 30 minutes for just our appetizer to come out and then another 30 for our dinner. We got there at 4:30 and our food was not out until 6. While I get quality food takes time to make our issue was that during the time we were there multiple tables that sat down and got served before us even though we placed our order at least 25 minutes before them. While I don't think this is a regular occurrence at the restaurant as the other waitresses were more attentive ours would disappear for long periods of time and took forever to even just get us drinks.
Overall I do recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great seafood on Mount Desert Isle. I just hope that this experience with the waitress is not a regular occurrence and if it is that management can address it to provide a...
