We absolutely love this place. From the food to the staff, however, last night was not the same as previous times we've been here. We try and go every year as many times as we can.
After traveling all the way from California, we FINALLY stopped here for our anniversary dinner (looking forward to a good time and fantastic food). Well, it was quite the opposite. Unfortunately, our experience was absolute trash due to our server Tashena. No personality, never smiled, wasn't pleasant, was not attentive whatsoever, took forever to get simple things and put a complete damper on our entire experience and dinner. Quite frankly, the tip we left was more generous than it should've been.
I'm in the restaurant industry and have been for many years. From serving and bartending to managing over 5yrs, the worst thing to ever have is a server who puts a bad taste in your mouth. We basically failed to exist in her world as did her other tables. It's almost as if whether or not she put forth the effort, people would still tip based on the bill amount. The surrounding waitress constantly checked her tables and made sure everyone was set. At first, I even thought she was a manager the way she was handling her business. We did not have the same treatment. We were checked on once and after that, the second time to drop off the bill. Another issue, bills should be placed in a neutral area on the table. My fiancé was not happy that it was placed in front of me. Even as a server, I never assumed but always placed bills/checks in an area where it didn't seem like I was being rude by guessing who was paying, especially if it was a couple.
Aside from what's listed above, we attempted to order a cocktail from our waitress before dinner but instead were TOLD we had to wait until after water was dropped off. Reason being, our waitress, Tashena, had to write down ONE martini in order to put the drink order in. It was a simple dirty Ketel martini with three bleu cheese stuffed olives. Why not put drink orders in and then grab the water while the drinks are being made 💁🏽♀️. Shortly after, she came up to our table and basically seemed annoyed we weren't ready to put apps in when she was ready. It wasn't even busy at this point so there was no need to be rushed. After we had the opportunity to place our orders, we asked her to return shortly after to grab our wine bottle order. We had to remind her of this and interrupt her from taking another group's entire order just so we had wine with dinner. Absolutely absurd.
Ordering dessert was interesting too as our server did not know or understand what a snifter glass was. My biggest thing is, if you don't know... ASK or Google it. It's 2021! We ordered espressos (which she thought was tea 😵) and two amaretto snifters because just like brandy or cognac, some enjoy swirling their liquor and smelling the aromas prior to sipping. Instead, unlike last year, we received our amaretto in port wine glasses. Being our favorite and one of the top Italian places on the Cape, the entire server experience was beyond disappointing. The food was awesome, but the server 😕.
Once dinner was finished, we asked for to-go containers and received them without a bag 🤯. One of the other employees who saw this was kind enough to rectify the problem without hesitation and without her being asked. Maybe these two need to switch positions because someone who is that observant should be working tables and not bussing them.
I can't stand leaving negative reviews but both the restaurant and its manager(s) need to be made aware of this. If I was a first time customer, I probably wouldn't consider returning due to this one experience. Next time, we will be asking to avoid this server at all costs or we'll just order takeout to avoid any future issues and tipping those who put the least effort into their job. There's no way I'd have this server on the floor at...
Read moreThis place has very Kitchen-Nightmare feel. The decor is strange, woody, dark, awkward greeter and awkward confusing, old pictures everywhere. Prices on the menu are high and restaurant was nearly empty. Bread was nice with the oil & parm combo. This place kind of wanted to be fine dining but unfortunately dropped the ball.
We ordered two specials and an order of ribs. I don't know why, but we just wanted ribs and were surprised to actually see it on the menu. They were mediocre but I don't hold this against the restaurant, they really didn't belong... Anyhow, one special was duck ragu and it seemed frozen/pre-made. It was quite tasty but seemed like something you could make yourself, or buy at a store. Other special was salmon with a butter caper sauce. The salmon was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The sauce however had lots of crunchy bits of onion which were quite unpleasant and the butter had separated from whatever the cream of the sauce was as if it wasn't emulsified properly. It came with a lump of crab stuffing on top, the interior of which was soggy bread and the whole lot needed salt. Ratatouille side was certainly a welcome and exciting dish but tasted of steamed squashed with jarred marinara. Desert of cannolis was clearly pre-made and way over sweet. Given the abundance of farmer's markets on Cape Cod, I would love to see this place sourcing local produce and perhaps more seafood. Would definitely return if so, until then, it's certainly not worth it.
Our server was very nice and he was pleasantly knowledgable about the menu. He was cheerful and quick with drink refills and the check. We were the only other party out of two in the restaurant, though, even though it seemed fully staffed, so I cannot comment on how service is with...
Read moreWell, we just got back from montano’s and to say we are disappointed is an understatement. Checked the menu online and said they had early bird specials until 6:00 pm. Did not feel like Italian or fish but one of the specials they offered was prime rib for $28.00. My mouth was watering just thinking about it. Got there at 4:30, even though it was a bit early for us but wanted to make sure they did not run out. Sat down and ordered a glass of wine and my husband a coke. They waitress was nice and very efficient. After delivering our drinks she came back to take our order. Asked her about the early bird special of prime rib but she said they were no longer having it. Informed her that is why we came because we read it online. She had no idea what I was talking about. Said she would check and come back and let us know. Came back with a no. She had already delivered our drinks so even though I wanted to leave my husband suggested we stay. Even though I really wanted the beef I was not going to pay the exorbitant prices they were charging. I ordered linguini and clams and my husband ordered fettuccini bolognese. My husband said his was average but for the amount they gave you could have been enough for a toddler. Mine was more like a soup…the broth was extremely salty and the clams , that came in a shell, not what I expected at all, were so tough that I had to spit each one out! We will not be returning to montano’s. A coke cost $4.00 which is ridiculous. The only good thing was the bread! I also suggest that they update their website so people do not come in expecting an early bird special and end up getting something that they are not completely...
