I honestly have never written a bad review on a restaurant in my entire life. But after going to this place a MONTH ago and I am still dealing with stomach issues, I need to say something.
My partner and I took a dear friend of mine to T or C so she could experience hot springs for the first time! The trip was going amazing, until we came to johnny B's.
I got a roast beef sandwich, I tried to find the freshest sounding meal on the menu. My partner got a philly cheese steak and my friend got chicken fried steak. ALL of the food made us sick. My friends meal looked like a TV dinner, frozen vegetables, no flavor. The philly was okay but upset his stomach immediately, and my meal was by far the worst.
The roast beef was literally grey, the most unappetizing color you can think of. I was so hungry I didn't notice until I started feeling sick and inspected the plate. I ate maybe 4 bites of the sandwich and immediately started feeling like I got food poisoning. I was dry heaving at the table, my guts were bubbling, I was extremely nauseous. I had to go to the bathroom and throw up during our meal. And that is just the start.
My friend and partner didn't feel sick as fast as I did. But by the time I came out of the bathroom they both were nauseous as well. Id say we all finished about half of our meal or less. This was the first time Ive walked out of a restaurant, leaving food on the table, it was so bad that we just paid and left.
Furthermore, Johnny B's basically ruined the rest of our day. We were all taking turns throwing up in the bathroom and almost completely missed our soak at the Hoosier hot springs. I felt so extremely sick, like I had eaten death. We ended up going home early because I couldn't enjoy anything. On the drive back I held a puke bucket the whole way.
The next day I felt a bit better. But now I'm getting to the craziest part, the reason I am currently writing this review. Ever since that meal at Johnny B's, I cannot keep food down the same. I think they gave me a parasite or bug. The only food I can eat without feeling either extremely nauseous or actually throwing up, is fresh fruit. I am a cook myself, so it's extremely disappointing for me to not be able to enjoy my own food.
This morning I ate a tiny serving of mexican rice with some homemade sourdough bread. my Mother in law also ate with me and she is completely fine. But 15 minutes later I was on the toilet with diarrhea, and throwing up at the same time. that is how its been with almost any meal I eat since that day.
I feel scared to eat now. I know it was the restaurant because nothing like this has happened to me before. I don't know if the chef was going through something that day, or it was the meat in my sandwhich, but I have never, EVER, thought a restaurant could negatively impact me this badly.
I will be contacting the health department to do a check up on this restaurant. We spoke to a few people in town about our experience and they also agreed they have gotten sick from Johnny B's. I don't understand how they are still running. I have now been suffering the consequences for weeks, and I didn't even finish my food. Imagine if I did.
Please beware before...
Read moreI'm giving this restaurant five stars because of its location and the quality of food. However just FYI I stood in the entryway looking for a place to sit and it look like it was pretty packed with several tables dirty.. it took 10 minutes for someone to even ask me what I wanted and I just asked if there was an open seating and if so where I would sit. Being new to this restaurant I did not know where I would need to sit down now since all the tables were dirty maybe they were left dirty because of the covid and the 75% capacity restrictions with a turquoise code. Well after finally enough people came in, one of the servers actually came up and told me where I could sit. I sat down at the dirty table cleaned it up in a neat pile for them to be removed thinking that I would be helpful. Took another 10 minutes for my menu to arrive after I asked a waitress for that and finally was able to enjoy a wonderful dinner. From what I overheard from other guests and a waitress nearby is that this was extremely crowded more than usual. Maybe guests were coming in due to spring break etc. Or maybe the day was just too beautiful to stay in. Knowing that it could take long to get out of there I asked for a to-go box immediately upon ordering my meal since I told them I knew that I would end up taking it with me and was thinking that this would be helpful and she said she would bring it right back with the meal. However that did not happen for another 10 or 15 minutes. Well all said and done she finally came back with the box and I quickly placed my remainder of the food in it ask for my check which I got speedily and checked out at the counter after purchasing one of their neat looking cookies.... Good up sale... I know that they were very busy but that is not an excuse not to keep your eye on the door and see if someone needs help. I was a little upset but I realize this is probably a fluke as many of the folks knew the waitresses and I assume have been patrons for lengths of time. Love the food and I am sure that the help would be more courteous and polite if they were not probably wore out and in a rush trying to accommodate all of us. I will return in the...
Read morePretty classic diner lunch experience. We ordered the green chile cheeseburger, green chile patty melt, and the green chile cheesesteak. All of them were tasty. The ground beef patties were very fresh and obviously hand made and they were generous with the chiles on all of them. Fries got a decent review from my dining partners. If we go back, though, someone is going to order the sweet potato fries; they looked really good. We also eyed the milkshakes somewhat greedily- they were beauties but we were stuffed. The only criticism I can offer about the food was about the soup of the day. It was chicken vegetable and the chicken, onions, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes were well cooked BUT- TorC is a hot springs town and the water does have a lot of wonderful minerals, the flavor of which turned up in the soup. It might not have made a difference to a lot of people but I come from a place that has pretty amazing water and it affected the experience for me. The service was friendly and efficient and the place was packed with locals, always a good sign in my book. I definitely will recommend it, especially on a Sunday when a lot of other locally-owned...
