A Hidden Gem with Chilaquiles Worth a Stop
I can’t recall the last time I had a truly satisfying meal for under ten bucks—until this morning. Eating out wasn’t in my plans; I had packed breakfast and lunch from home like a responsible adult. But as fate (and hunger) would have it, I found myself at AutoZone looking for parts when a restaurant next door caught my eye.
The name suggested Mexican food but with a twist—intriguing. A couple of my co-workers had mentioned it before, saying they liked their lunch there, though it was “too early” for me to put that to the test. This was 9:00 a.m., and breakfast was calling my name.
Outside, they advertised breakfast, so I figured it might be a recent addition to their menu. I walked in and was greeted by a gentleman who was just about to enjoy his own breakfast but looked like he worked there too. A quick glance at the menu board, and before I could even process my options, I heard the magic word: chilaquiles. At that moment, nothing else mattered.
Now, let me tell you something about chilaquiles. They hold a special place in my heart. In fact, the only thing that makes me angrier than someone offending my mother is someone butchering chilaquiles and calling it authentic. It’s serious. So, I figured if this place was going to win me over, it had to be through a dish that I hold sacred.
I ordered them to-go since I was still on the clock. While waiting, I took a moment to look around. The décor is modern, fresh, and inviting—complementing the aromas coming from the kitchen and the friendly energy of the staff. I even checked out the bathrooms (clean, no complaints) and noticed a secondary dining room that seemed to serve another purpose—though I didn’t ask.
Now, here’s my one suggestion: visibility. I’ve never noticed this place before, despite it being here for a while. A more eye-catching sign near Route 66 could work wonders. Social media is great, but curb appeal is king. I make food decisions in a split second based on what I see while driving—so a little more roadside presence might just steer more people your way.
And now, the verdict: the chilaquiles scored an 85%. That means they’re good—very good—but not quite at the “make me emotional” level yet. Still, good enough that I’ll be back to explore more of the menu.
Great job, guys. Keep it up....
Read moreWent in for lunch like I have in the past, but for some reason things were different. It was like almost a whole teenage crew cooking and serving. Once I was ready to place my order young lady at the counter seemed like she could care less about taking the order and was more worried about what was on her cellphone. I finally got my order placed for a couple of my favorites at this restaurant. 1 birria taco and a fried chicken tamale. When I finally got my food it looked great at first glance. I tried cutting into my tamale with my fork and noticed the bottom side of the tamale was scorched and hard as a rock. I thought to my self, how could someone even plate this thing. Needless to say it was horrible. I have eaten these several times and the have been great, but like I said something was off. I then push the tamale to the side and grab the birria taco dip it into the juice and take a bite to realize they had just put meat on the outside of the taco and nothing but cheese in the middle. After spending $10 on the items I felt cheated... I was completely disgusted with the food and service I had received, not to mention I had a client with me and he barely touched his cheese tamales for the same reason. Needless to say, I'm sorry but I won't be back for the simple fact that I reached out on Facebook, and instead of responding to me with my concerns they erased everything and blocked me. I wasn't surprised based on the service I had gotten. Don't waste your time with this establishment. There are several way better taco places around town. By the way if anyone would like pictures of my food to backup my story....
Read moreI would give zero stars if I could. I had a wedding catered a year or so ago as a recommendation from a friend and am now deciding to leave a review because as I look back on my wedding, I still get angry thinking about it as this was the only thing that went wrong that day. I had planned everything out myself and was in communication with the son via facebook messenger. I had agreed to use them due to them agreeing to cook the food fresh in the venues kitchen. The day of the wedding comes and they came early with the food already prepared and left without speaking to anyone, leaving the food out to get cold. This was infuriating because if I had known this or if they had at least talked to someone then they would have been told to put the food in the warmer to keep it as fresh as possible. My husband later called upset and they not only were rude and called him names, they did not apologize, but later told me they preferred to cook the food in their own kitchen. That would have been great to know at ANY point of the many conversations we had. I had even sent pictures of the kitchen the week of the event to ask if it would work and they said yes. I would never recommend this place to anyone for any event even though the food was decent (but completely cold). This was a wedding with about 75 guests and they did not care at all that they gave us a bad experience. It was expensive and totally not worth it. Save your money and cater elsewhere even if you...
