I have been coming to this chow hall since the beginning of June. I can count on one hand the amount of times I come to the chow hall and actually have been able to get ice consistently. I would assume in a desert environment the ability for marines to get ice would be high in the list. Apparently my assumption is incorrect. Also the one machine that dispenses ice, or is supposed to as it rarely does have ice, dispenses warm water. So when you finally get to have ice and you say hey I want water, your ice melts. I have an issue with the portion of eggs that are provided in the mornings. If I am only getting eggs and bacon a single scoop of eggs is not a sufficient portion size. You might say, hey you can get back in line and get more. I would counter and say waiting 10-15 minutes for a single scoop, sitting down and eating the portion and getting back up to wait again for a single scoop more makes no sense. I’m a smaller guy, but the portion sizing doesn’t make sense. If I were to wait 20 minutes for an omelette with three eggs my portion would be much larger, but if I’m in the regular line I’m limited to about an egg and a half.
Third issue with the chow hall, the salad bar in the center is consistently under stocked and the arrangement of items jumbled up daily. I have shown up for chow on many occasions to only bits of cheese remaining. Some days there is regular cream cheese, some days it’s low fat, some days it’s both. Oh you want dressing? It’s on the other side today.
To be clear I think the food is great and the staff are friendly. These problems indicate poor management or broken systems within the chow hall. But if these issues existed in a restaurant they would have been closed...
Read moreThe place has decent food, however it's unfortunately overshadowed by the abhorrently cripplingly terrible hospitality. It's not everyone, it's only 3 lunch ladies that seem to want to make everyone's day particularly uninjoyable. I understand that it's is by no means easy and even frustrating to server possibly thousands of hungry marines a day, but we are not asking for much. Most of us simply want to go in and out and we would hope that those serving our food would show more regard for those who are serving them. God forbid that we ask for the food that is in front of us or take our time eating the food. It's irritating to see that money is being taken out of our pay every check for such poor service....
Read moreMain chow hall is okay. Takes a long to time to get served often. The cafe on the side is horrible though. The workers take their time to make your food and scan your cac. They always get your order wrong unless the manager is in. Leave it to the workers to be slow and incompetent with a simple order. For the past month without fail, I ask for 5 things in my burrito, and ALWAYS end up with something missing. The Asian lady at the front is...
