Local "Dive restaurant" in the middle of nowhere(Union Dale/Orson). I say dive restaurant because it is an older dive bar(I say dive as a term of endearment), since I am in my 50's and grew up going to many. Dimly lit bar area with a pool table, shuffleboard, and large screen tv. There is a restaurant seating area in the adjoining room. Great bartender and friendly locals. The food, well let's just say it's not your normal dive bar fare. I had the meatloaf and a friend had the chicken fried steak. BIG delicious portions. The chicken fried steak was the best I ever had. Cut it with a fork. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The meatloaf was great as well. PLENTY to choose from on the menu. I will go as far to say that if you don't like a dish there, it's because you just don't like that item. This was my first trip and will not be the last. I wish I would have taken pictures of the food. I usually do. However, you can get the type of feel for the place with the bar photo and when was the last time you saw an actual cigarette...
Read moreRestaurants are a dime a dozen with varied grades in food quality and it's rare to find a place that also excels in hospitality, especially in more rural areas. The Beacon however is an outstanding exception and a gem - this is due to caring employees like Bonnie, she was our server that evening. From menu suggestions to knowledge about ingredients - every question was answered and all requests and mods accommodated.
The restaurant atmosphere is homely and the food was delicious and generous, it felt as if eating mama's homemade cooking in her own kitchen.
The bar - which is fully divided from the restaurant - has a lively feel with good music at a perfect level, a pool table and a mile long shuffleboard, literally the longest table I've ever seen. You can also order limited food at the bar.
We had a great experience and will visit again when in the area. I...
Read moreThis is a nice, quiet little place to eat. The tables are spaced far enough apart that you won't be bumping elbows with any of the other patrons. I ordered the turkey reuben with chips. It was so tasty and filling. I thought the chips were going to be homemade potato chips, but they were just tortilla chips. That was a little disappointing, but I have to say they were very fresh and crispy. Another person ordered the wings. They were nice and meaty, not tiny little wings with hardly any meat on them. The other person in our group ordered the Caesar salad and said the dressing was delicious! The croutons must have been homemade because they were so fresh and lightly crispy, not hard like some where you need a jackhammer to break them. Dawn, our waitress, was pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. I'd definitely recommend...
