I was hopeful to leave a stellar review for this place based on local recommendations - this review is based on service alone as we, unfortunately, did not end up eating there.
My husband and I arrived just after 6:15pm, we were seated a few minutes later, and then about 10 min after we sat down, the waitress came over to take our order. We ordered our food and asked for the check at the waitress's earliest convenience as we were trying to get to the nearby brewery by 7:30 since they closed at 8pm (as did the restaurant).
We got water and drinks right away; time passed and the waitress never checked in on us again. After about 30 min, we noticed that all of the tables had turned over since we arrived but no food had been brought out. Once 45 min had passed since we ordered, we flagged the waitress over to ask how much longer it would be. She apologized and gave several excuses of being under staffed; we asked her to check on our order and said if it hadn't been started yet, we'd like to close out (it was now 7:15pm, an hour after we had arrived).
I totally understand being understaffed and am sympathetic of that. However, in the 45 min after we ordered, no one checked in to see if we needed more drinks or to let us know things were taking longer because they were down a cook. I feel the customer service could have been much better even if they were understaffed - a simple "I'm sorry things are taking so long, can I get you anything else?" would have gone a long way. We ended up ordering pizza from the place next door and taking it to the brewery, both of which were fantastic.
Would love to give this place another shot if we're ever in...
Read moreWorth a detour! A pleasing eclectic menu ranges from Fishing Ships (fish & chips), tacos, fried boneless chicken, creative burgers to Asian Citrus Salad, Bulgogi and Coconut Curry Stir-fry. Many surprises as everything has a zingy combination of ingredients. The Blueberry BBQ Poppers were very tasty! Several imaginative starters including poutine and delicious homemade desserts. The chocolate chip cookies are huge! Union is a classic small New England town with a beautiful village green in the center. At one end of the green Sterlingtown Public House occupies an old building. Indoor seating is simple and plain. Outdoor seating in a comfortable, family-friendly beer garden with tiki torches, wooden tables (half-size picnic tables) and firepits. Swift, very friendly service. Craft beers, ciders, wine. We will return soon to sample more of the intriguing menu and hope they are not sold out of the Bang Bang Mushrooms this time. (Photo courtesy of their...
Read moreThis was a disappointment after driving over an hour to try this restaurant. We arrived before 5 pm and the waiter took our order and gave our drinks. We finished our drinks and sat at the table with only empty glasses for over twenty minutes before offering a refill which we declined. After an hour I asked the waiter if there was a problem with our food order he confessed that he didn’t put our order in when we ordered and it would be out in a few minutes. After 10 more minutes we had to ask him to cancel our meal and give us the check for our drinks. When he returned he said the beverages were free. So he was not going to tell us that the bad service was not the kitchen but his fault, he apologized but this was inexcusably. I could not recommend this restaurant based on food because we never got a crumb but the bad service I can definitely say we...
