I am extremely disappointed by the customer service my children and I received from the owner of this local small business in my hometown. As a business owner myself, I take pride in how clients and customers are treated, and I can confidently say I would never speak to or handle any customer the way we and others were treated. We arrived around 7:30 PM to get some ice cream. From the moment we walked up to the window, the tone was hostile. My 12-year-old son was trying to place his order and asked me a quick question when the man behind the window rudely said “hurry up I don’t got all day”, even though there was no one else in line. That level of disrespect toward a child is unacceptable. Throughout the visit, the attitude from the owner remained rude, dismissive, and honestly came off as racially charged. As my children finished their ice cream and threw their napkins in the trash, the man yelled out hey for no clear reason. When a Black male politely asked if there was an issue, the owner said nothing but pulled in the tip jar, only to put it back out for white customers shortly after. It’s very sad to witness such obvious bias and hostility in a place meant to serve families. Speaking to children like that and displaying that kind of behavior is disturbing. We were not the only ones who noticed it, other families looked just as uncomfortable. I truly hope this business reflects on how today was handled and takes accountability. After ordering 2 milkshakes, the nice young lady that waited on us gave me my change. I gave her a $20 bill and got a $10 bill and some ones back. As I’m about to put my money away, the girl comes back and asks if she mistakenly handed me a $20 bill instead of a $10 bill. I check the change (which I am still holding) and show her. Still a $10 and some ones. She tells the man working with her (an older man with glasses, smug look, and obvious poor attitude) that I didn’t have a $20 bill. The man then proceeds to announce that he saw her hand me a $20 bill. I politely told the man that I would have gladly given him his $20 bill if that’s what I was given and even showed him the inside of my wallet. He rudely says “That’s not what I saw” and then proceeds to YELL at his young employee for something she didn’t do in front of all of their customers. The poor girl was almost in tears and even apologized to me for everything. I am disgusted and absolutely outraged with what I’ve encountered.
