Have always wanted to try this place and last night my boyfriend was in the mood for linguine and white clams so I made reservations for us. Overall I really liked it and thought the food was very good. The BYOB didn't bother me because it's a little more cost effective to be honest. I loved the setting, ate outside. It was beautiful evening to sit out watching the river and the inside looked like it would be very cozy on a chilly evening.
I'd give a higher star rating but I felt a little rooked after we left. For what we ordered, I still don't know how my bill was over $100 for two WITHOUT ordering drinks.
I had ordered the pasta with filet and gorgonzola and it was very good. No complaint about the taste but rather it was listed as $34 on the menu but the price was alerted and adjusted to $40 in my cheque. Seems a little ridiculous for a bowl of pasta with three small chunks of meat and gorgonzola cheese sauce. I get it many places charge extra for GF which I don't think is fair. Celiac disease is not controllable and it's like they wouldn't charge extra for a handicap person who needs special seating but I digress.
We each had a salad to start, nothing crazy, he had his linguine and I had my pasta which apparently actually cost $6 more than already being the most expensive dish on the menu at $34 for again- pasta a few pieces of meat.
I ordered the GF three layer chocolate cake instead of the flourless torte only because if anything is GF on a dessert menu it would be a formed l flourless torte so it was kind of a treat to actually get cake for a change.
I was served the peice of torte (atleast that sure is what it looked like to me) that had been brought out for another table who was celebrating a bday but turned it down. I know because we had just talked about it with the server earlier AND the candle hole was in it.
I don't like seeing food go to waste like so that isn't necessarily a problem but I thought it was a little meh to get recycled food that was brought out for another table earlier and mainly because it sure didn't seem like cake to me, it seemed like a piece of flourless torte. Tasty, but don't think I really got what I ordered.
I usually don't write negative reviews and I don't think the is entirely bad- again the food and service was good. Pretty overpriced in my opinion for what we got and the service was a little slow when we first got there.
Just wanted to share. We'd go back, and would love to again. But honestly with so many other places we usually go to I don't know that we will. Not because it's bad because it was a little overpriced, for me. $120 before tip for two salads, two not crazy entrees a piece of dessert and coffee without even ordering drinks was somewhat...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible!!! Not what we were expecting from a Newtown restaurant. Our party of four arrived shortly after 5p.m. There was no one in the restaurant yet and we were seated immediately. After about 15 minutes, our waitress came over with some bread and to take our orders. We ordered, and I asked the waitress for butter for the bread. She said she would bring some out. After another HALF HOUR, a busboy came by and I asked him for butter, which he brought out promptly. In the meantime, more diners were seated AND SERVED while we waited. I would have asked our waitress about the delay, but whe never came back to our table. When she passed by, she would not make eye contact. At 6:30p.m. (YES, AN HOUR AND A HALF AFTER WE ARRIVED!) the waitress brought out our food. Instead of placing our meals in front of us, she handed them to us, including reaching over another member of our party to HAND me my plate. For the record, there was plenty of room for her to walk around to my side of the table and serve me. And in case you are wondering, our waitress NEVER attempted to apologize for unreasonable delay or the terrible service. When we had finished our meals, we got our waitresses attention (since she never came back to see if we needed anything), she brought the check out. There was an error on the check, and we waited again for her to come out from the back room. Totally frustrated, I finally got up and walked into the back area where our waitress was with the two busboys. I asked her to correct the bill and bring it out to us. At this point, I don't even remember if she apologized for the error because I was so disgusted with our experience here. I am accustomed to tipping 20% in restaurants, but for the first time in memory, I tipped only 10%, and I did so reluctantly. The poor service in this place barely made up for what were actually good meals. We will NEVER return to this place, and we will warn others to avoid it...
Read moreI always try and take my girl someplace different than the last place I took her for her birthday every year. This year I decided to take her to Francisco's on the Delaware.
It was a quality over convenience choice because from our door in Philadelphia to Francisco's is 42.5 miles. Our experience proved our 85 mile trek was well worth it. My GPS took us right to their door. Thank the sweet lord because we would still be trying to find it without GPS.
Being it was a Saturday evening and Francisco's participates in the annual Restaurant Week, the place was 98% packed. We still managed to get seated 15 minutes earlier than our 7:30 reservation. The atmosphere is dimmed light quiet elegance with the rolling Delaware River only 110 feet away as a romantic accent.
Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. Many times I gravitate to the familiar on the menu, but this time I wanted to get outside of my comfort zone, so I ordered the Lobster Ravioli - comprised of lobster stuffed black ravioli in a light lobster cream sauce. OMG! It was absolutely deliscious. I expected to enjoy it, but not as much as I did.
My girl had their Linguine al Frutti di Mare Fradiavolo - comprised of shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels & fresh fish sauteed in olive oil, garlic & crushed red peppers, finished with white wine & a splash of red sauce. With zero prodding from me, she commented to me that the meal was "so good" three times. Mission accomplished. :-)
Finally, for desert we each had a slice of their lemon, sort of custard pie. Fantastic.
Great experience all the way around. Highly recommended.
P.S. Not for the...
