Oh where to begin. We have eaten at 5 star restaurants and roadside diners. This was the first time in my life I have ever been insulted by a "manager" (dark hair, blue eyes and first name starts with a J if management cares) and basically been called a liar. We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of staff where we were staying, being told they had the best steak around. What a disappointment! My husband ordered the ribeye steak which was about $49 and I ordered the top sirloin steak which was about $39. We both asked for a medium rare cook. When dinner was served, my husband asked if they had fresh ground pepper and the server brought out a pepper grinder and informed us she had to take it back, so she had to stand there while we peppered our steaks. The knives had to really saw through the steaks and what should have been tenderness was instead grissly, flavorless and overcooked. We ate them (we were hungry at this point after 8 hours on the road) and were not planning on saying anything. When the server came and asked how it was, we told her it was horrible and she laughed before she realized we were serious. My husband asked for more ice tea and here comes J. She sits down at our table and my husband told her the steak was so tough that the knife was like cutting it with a butter knife. He told her that instead of being medium rare, it was more like medium well. She proceeded to tell us the meat was squishy and was more of a rare. He looked at her and asked her if she was telling him it was closer to rare. She went on to tell him she graduated from culinary school, basically insinuating she knew what she was talking about and we were stupid on the cook of meat. At this point he told her to leave our table and get our bill. I have no doubt she thought (and treated us) like we were trying to get something for free. There was never an apology for a disappointing meal. We believe in being honest and provide constructive criticism which was returned with a I graduated from culinary school and I know it all attitude.
I also gave low score for service as we sat at the table for 10 minutes before our server came and even asked what we wanted to drink or if we were ready to order. She also never came back to see if we needed anything the whole time. This is food service 101. It was not that busy. There were 3 different servers and several empty tables. At minimum, the young man who seated us could have offered us water or ask if we wanted anything to drink. Mind you, the people who walked in right before us and had a different server, were already having their salads. I know it wasn't her fault that she had to take the pepper grinder right back; however, she could have just as easily stepped away, and when she saw we were finished, she could have come back to get it. She didn't need to tell us she was told to bring it right back.
This was a very poor and disappointing experience. We travel a great deal and have eaten at all kids of places and this was absolutely the...
Read moreMy husband and I ate there last Thursday (9/30). The restaurant was short handed on staff, you would have never known! Service was great, everyone was friendly and went out of there way to make sure anything you could want or need was right there. Our waitress Trisha, was wonderful! There was a minor mishap with the ticket, and honestly neither of us had even noticed. She had several large tables and was attentive to us, as well as the large party that was celebrating a birthday. She apologized several times about the ticket (again- we didn’t even notice) and bought our dinner although we told her several times it was not necessary. She kept insisting on paying. The food still came out so quick! And much quicker than any nice sit down restaurant back home. Our food was fresh, great quality and soooo good! We had fried pickles, a steak, and chicken bowl. Zero complaints! Trish even refused a tip, after refusing to let us pay, some sneaky moves and the tip was left and we were gone before she could turn it down again. That speaks volumes about the customer service and employees, at The Branding Iron. I had a conversation with Karen, the owner, she was so friendly and so appreciative of her staff. None of which felt rehearsed, just a genuine appreciation. Next time we are in Moab we will eat here again. I’ve suggested it to some friends who will also be experiencing Moab for the first time in a few months. 10/10 recommend all the way...
Read moreSo, the food comes with a potato side, baked beans (they call Texas Beans) or corn, bread, and a salad. I'm not a huge fan of baked beans but I like it more than corn, so I asked that, and also got the mashed potatoes with gravy.
So, the baked beans here must be the absolute best baked beans I have ever had. I thought I was going to eat a spoon of it or two and that's it, but cleaned the bowl. Same with the potatoes and gravy, actually I cleaned, like they didn't even need to wash anything, completely cleaned the entire plate and I ordered the 16 oz Ribeye, so not like I ordered something small.
Portions were good, the food tasted amazing. The steak wasn't quite a dry-aged bone-in ribeye you get from some fancy steakhouse, but for a casual restaurant ribeye it was excellent.
I also rarely order dessert when I eat out, especially after this huge meal, but I thought if all of the meal was as good as it was I was simply curious if they can follow up with dessert as well. Ordered their made-in-house chocolate cream pie and yep, they scored 100%.
Highly recommend if you're in Moab, especially if you're hungry after a long hike, make the drive out to this place, you won't be sorry. I'm thinking I need to visit more often just to have an excuse to eat here...
