I had been here once before, last year, and had a very positive experience. Unfortunately, our visit yesterday was so bad I won't return. It was a Friday night so I expected it to be busy, but jeez.
Our wait was short, which was nice given that it was a Friday. We got sat at a high top in the bar even though we were there for dinner and not drinking. There was a table next to us that had so many kids it was a literal daycare. Not the restaurant's fault but it was definitely a strange decision to put a table with four kids under 7 in the bar at a high top. Our table and their table were across from the short side of the bar, which I guess would have been okay if there hadn't been a million people in the bar cramming themselves directly behind and between our tables to access the bar. We wound up pushing our seats back just enough to keep standing room people from trying to stand between our table and the people who were sitting at the bar behind us. It was so uncomfortable. Any time the waitress had to pass our table to get the the daycare table, she kept knocking into my purse and our backs. Again, not her fault, but poor planning on the restaurant's part for sure.
Apparently the daycare table had someone who knew employees, so at one point, there were maybe three additional staff members cramming themselves behind and between our table to see the children. Like, we're talking within inches of us on two sides talking as loud as you would in a crowded bar.
I wanted to come back just for the fried cauliflower, which I unfortunately found out had been taken off the menu. I wound up having the nachos which were subpar as far as nachos go. The rest of our party had a pizza, a burger, and guacamole bites with potato soup. Everything was just "okay". Not abjectly bad but not that good either and definitely not worth the horrible seating situation.
We drove from St. Charles to visit this place and it was a waste of...
Read moreI have celiac disease and am always searching for places that serve gluten free foods, that know what they are doing preparing my food. I get deathly ill and have had the misfortune of getting contaminated food in the past (not fun). We were in Missouri for my sons graduation from University of Missouri Columbia. On our return we stopped overnight in St. Louis to wait for our flight the next day. As luck would have it an Internet search revealed The Corner Pub and Grill, they have 2 locations, 1 13645 Big Bend Rd, 2. 15824 Fountains Plaza Dr. Both about 13-16 miles from where we were, the drive was on expressways and 4 lane highways very easy and timely to get to. This was by far one of the best ideas I had for a place to eat at. The owners daughter has gluten issues, and the gluten free section of the menu is named for her, the prices were reasonable fir the amount of food you get. I opted for the Cobb salad with grilled chicken breast, the chicken was like $2.49 cents extra, but well worth it. My husband (no gluten issues) had the gyro with their homemade potato chips. I had a side of fries, they have a dedicated fryer for gluten free people. Both of us were so stuffed we couldn't even think about dessert. The waitstaff was wonderful, and very attentive, you get greeted when you enter, and then again when you leave. If your into sports they have T.V.'s everywhere. I didn't try any beverages except the water, and it was fine. I highly recommend them to all people whether gluten free or not...just a great...
Read moreFood was so good I came back the next week!
Came in here for a weekday happy hour/dinner and a weekday lunch BOTH times everything was amazing! We were seated immediately and the drinks and food were quick to come out. I love the space layout it feels both comfy and more upscale than your average pub.
For happy hour we had some beers, burger & fries, chicken salad, and the beef sandwich & chips with a side of beer cheese. The beer cheese had a thick consistency which wasn’t easy to scoop with the chips which was strange, never had beer cheese that consistency before. The food however was perfect! Very fresh, hot, and flavorful and came out quick.
The second time we came for lunch we got the zucchini fries for an appetizer and the breakfast burger, Philly cheesesteak, fries (well done), waffle fries & tots, and we got the funnel cake fries & donuts for dessert. We also got some beer and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was the perfect blend and not overly sweet. The burgers were amazing the Philly cheesesteak could use more flavor & we feel if the bread was toasted it would’ve held up more. Unfortunately the fries weren’t well done as requested but they were immediately fixed and came out piping hot. We really loved the funnel fries, I wish you could only order those because the donuts weren’t as good as the fries but they were still good.
Overall i highly recommend this place for some good food and good happy hour prices! Can’t wait to be back...
