Wow. I will be reporting this restaurant for unfair/ILLEGAL treatment and harassment of me and my service dog. I have never been more disrespected in my entire life. I met my family half way from my college town and home, we went in not as first time guests because we had such a great experience the last time. My service dog in training was with me and the owner came up to our table AFTER we had already order drinks AND food. She jumped down my throat and immediately started saying things like “i’ve never seen a service dog act like this” and “customers are complaining”. Keep in mind, my family and I were in the very back corner of the restaurant and the only reason customers knew she was in the building was due to us walking in. We politely replied saying. “If it was a problem walking in then we should have been told and we would have found somewhere else. We already ordered our drinks and food, do you want us to leave?” The owner told us no but demanded that I keep my dog in order. My dog is in training and never acted out ONCE as she said my dog did. To train service dogs, they need experience in real life situations at restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, retail stores, etc. My dog politely sat there as we ate. The owner loudly stated that my dog was not a service animal while everyone around was watching the confrontation. At this point, we didn’t know how to react. I immediately got angry but held my anger to not cause a scene. What if the reason I needed a service dog was because of my anxiety and panic attacks???? I thank God it was me and not another service dog owner. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO EDUCATE THEIR OWNERS, MANAGERS, AND STAFF ON SERVICE DOG PROTOCOLS AND AWARENESS. This was ridiculous. As we go up to the front of the store, the owner proceeded to tell us that our bill of $49 was accidentally paid and that we needed to pay for another party’s meal. This was the last straw. Are you kidding me?? You want us to pay for someone else’s meal for y’all’s screw up????? They kept us there for a good 10minutes trying to make us pay the difference. Would NOT recommend this place to ANYONE. I’ve never been questioned or treated that way with my service animal. I’ve never written a review in my entire life but this time was necessary. The unapologetic, insincere, insensitive, and ignorance of this restaurant is beyond me. They will be reported for harassing me, my service animal, and family. WHAT THEY DID WAS ILLEGAL. If you are a service dog owner, do NOT go here. If you are looking for a good place to stop and eat on I20, do...

My review will be a bit in depth, but for quick summary, I highly recommend this location if you enjoy country homestyle meals.

My first opinion of the Farmhouse wasn't that good, I thought it was going to be another cracker barrel style store with mediocre food, I was wrong, just goes to show, don't judge a book by the cover.

When I first stepped in I felt like I entered a country home. The decor was gorgeous and the interior design was spot on.

At first glance it looks like they have a large menu, but it's not as large as it looks. A small menu tends to mean better food, as there is less of a chance frozen food is used.

For starters I ordered a Sweet Tea and Fried Mac & Cheese.

-The tea was not super sweet, but in my opinion had a perfect amount of suger. -The Fried Mac & Cheese was fantastic, it was very cheesy, the pasta was perfectly cooked, and it was not full of grease.

For my dinner I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Vegetables. The Chicken Fried Steak was seasoned very well, Freshly breaded and cooked perfectly. It was delicious. The Mashed Potatoes were Freshly mashed, topped with country gravy and served in its own small bowl. It was delicious, and perfectly seasoned. The Grilled Vegetables were sautéed well, unfortunately one of my onions was a little overcooked, but overall it was delicious and seasoned well.

Last but not least, the portion sizes. The portion sizes were very good, if I wouldn't have ordered the larger chicken fried steak I would have finished all of my food.

My final words are regularding the staff. The staff were very kind, fast working, and always busy, they were not waisting time and keeping the dining room clean.

The best part is that I actually met the owner, well one of them. She was back and forth assisting in keeping the front end running smoothly and visiting the kitchen. I absolutely love seeing an active owner present, it makes the whole...

When I walked in my eyes immediately saw the dessert case. WOW!!! I had to see more.

The restaurant decor is extremely charming and I saw train tracks on top of the wall but no train. I asked my waitress, Leah, and she turned it on. Giving that there were kids inside, I thought this might add to the ambience of the evening for everyone.

I started off with a fried green beans and were pleasantly surprised! Very well seasoned and crunchy. I should note that the dinner roll weighed about 8 ounces. What a treat!

The menu looked wonderful but I wanted Leah to tell me what I should look at most. The hamburger steak won. I wanted it loaded with everything and it was. Loads of gravy. I wish there were more mashed potatoes. I had the top it off with dessert so coconut cream pie was the winner.

I had a great experience and I recommend everybody going through to at least stop and try this wonderful place. It has a great story. The story should be in their Google page. That would at least bring in some more people to see it for themselves. ############

UPDATED REVIEW (12/28/24) I tried the Southwest egg rolls this time and they were pretty good. A little too much bean in them for my liking but they tasted great.

I chose the ribeye steak which was supposed to have a bourbon glaze on it. There wasn't much of a glaze but the steak was very tender and tasty. It was my hope to have some glaze left to soak up with the dinner roll. They were out of the steamed vegetables and zucchini squash medley. I found this quite troubling for a restaurant of this caliber. I had the sweet corn and loaded mashed potatoes which were very hot. Having the sides in a small bowl may help with portion control/costs but does nothing for presentation (see pics).

Natalie, my waitress, was very hospitable and help me with menu options.

I would give this visit the following rating: Food 4, Service 5,...

grew up going to The Farmhouse in Van, Texas, and would beg my dad to take me whenever I went to work with him. For 17 years, The Farmhouse has been serving up Southern regional classics with a homemade touch. Family owned and operated since 2003, it’s a place where everyone feels right at home. 📍 1125 S Oak St, Van, TX (right off i20) 🕒 Open Monday–Saturday | 7 AM–8 PM Closed Sunday

From the moment I steered my semi into the spacious lot of the Farmhouse Restaurant in Texas, I knew I was in for a treat. This place doesn't just say 'Texas' - it lives it, with an ambiance that is a true nod to the Old West. The staff at the Farmhouse greeted me with warm smiles, making me feel welcome after a long haul. Their friendliness was not just refreshing but genuine, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience. Cleanliness was evident throughout the venue, from the polished silverware to the gleaming floor, reflecting the care the staff takes in maintaining a welcoming environment. Now let's talk about the food – the highlight of my visit. I ordered a steak, and calling it 'well-cooked' is an understatement. It was perfection on a plate – juicy, tender, and graced with a special marinade that had my taste buds dancing. The flavor was unlike anything I'd tasted before, and believe me, I've had my fair share of steaks on the road. And the homemade pies? They were 'out of sight' indeed! Each bite was a perfect blend of flaky crust and sweet, satisfying filling that took the dining experience from great to extraordinary. The parking lot deserves a special mention. It's not often I come across a place that's as accommodating for semi trucks with trailers as the Farmhouse Restaurant. It's spacious and well-organized, making it hassle-free to stop in, even with a big rig. In conclusion, the Farmhouse Restaurant is a gem that serves up more than just food – it serves an experience. I left with a full stomach and a big smile, already looking forward to the next time I could pull off the highway and relive this delightful encounter. If you're driving through Texas and find yourself in the vicinity, do yourself a favor and pull over at the Farmhouse. You won't regret it.
