Hit up First N Last Roadhouse on a Friday night, expecting a bustling crowd. Instead, it was laid-back—like everyone else in town got the memo about a secret party I wasn’t invited to. But the vibe was chill, and the folks there seemed like good people who’d hold the door for you at the gas station, so no complaints.
We started with a basket of corn minimuffins and a side of maple butter. Now, don’t get me wrong—they were decent. But as a self-proclaimed connoisseur of buttery spreads, I have to say: maple butter? A solid “meh.” You know what would really elevate those muffins? Peach butter. Trust me, peach butter has a southern charm that maple just can’t match. Think of it as the Beyoncé of spreads—add it, and suddenly everything’s better.
Our server, Lori, brought our drinks and took our order with the kind of efficiency that makes you question if she moonlights as a superhero. The food did take a while—long enough for me to wonder if they were out back forging the cutlery—but Laurie kept the drinks flowing and the table stocked with napkins like a true pro. When I asked her name (purely to acknowledge her great service), she joked that she doesn’t usually give it out because of creeps. Completely understandable.
Side note: Lori, if you’re reading this, you are an absolute knockout. Not in a creepy way—just a casual observation from someone with functioning eyes. You are a rare kind of stunning.
When the food finally arrived, it was worth the wait. Burgers cooked to perfection, fries so crispy they practically shattered under the fork, and portions generous enough to make me loosen my belt. All in all, everything hit the spot.
First N Last Roadhouse knows how to do good food and great service. If you’re looking for a laid-back spot with solid eats, it’s worth a visit. Just one humble suggestion: swap the maple butter for peach butter, and I’ll personally nominate you for a James Beard Award. Cheers to Laurie for making it an awesome experience—I’ll...
Read moreWhen we told the hosts how many people we had in our party, I mentioned adults kids and a baby. Now you would think if someone mentioned a baby, there would be an offer of a high chair. Nope. Luckily, my niece brought a portable high chair with her, but I found it odd. We ordered appetizers, cheese curds, fried pickle spears and pretzel nuggets, and they were very good. We ordered our meal, which took some time to come out. When it did, three of the six meals came out and then 5 minutes later the other three, which happened to be steaks, showed up. This is where this place went downhill fast. My filet looked like it had been cut in half. I had never seen a piece of meat that small ever. It was also over cooked and had no seasoning. My mashed potatoes were not mashed. I think they took a baked potato and cut it up into pieces. They too were very bland like my steak. My husband ordered a ribeye. It was not a ribeye, it was full of gristle, and it too was over cooked. He ordered medium rare and he got medium well done. My nephew ordered a sirloin medium rare and it too was overcooked to well done. My niece and nephew come this place all the time, and they have had nothing but good things to say about this place. We must have come on an off day. All in all we spent $120 on a meal that wasn't even worth half the price. We will not...
Read moreFor context, I have never left a review for any restaurant in my life. I am a local to Vernon, and was excited about this place opening. I can safely say I will not go here again, at least in the near future.
We sat down about 12:10 and didn't recieve our food until about an hour later at 1:10. My girlfriend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with no lettuce tomato or onion and it came out with all of those on it. I ordered a tendorloin sandwich, which was mediocre at best, and a caesar salad that came out with no dressing on it at all. I asked for dressing and it took them at least 10 minutes to bring me a cup of caesar. The menu already is short, only 1 page long, so you would think the servers and cooks know it by heart. They don't. With it being lunch hour on a Sunday, the service was not packed and only 1/3 or so of the tables were seated with customers. I can't imagine how slow they would be with a full service.
I understand that this restaurant in newly opened, and it might take some time for staff to get comfortable and in a rhythm to get orders out fast and precise. All in all, our experience was a lot worse than what i was expecting. Maybe Roadhouse will get better and the service will be faster, but until then I will not be dining at this establishment. The only thing I enjoyed was the beer.
I would give 0...
