Do not bring your family here if you value their safety.
I used to love coming here throughout the years when I was younger. The atmosphere back then was friendly and welcoming. I’d given them business plenty of times in the past while out in the west desert. Something has clearly changed, and I’m honestly shocked this place is still in business.
Here’s what happened: We stopped outside Silver Sage Café to change our 2-year-old’s diaper in the back of our truck. I walked in to ask if there was a trash can I could use, and the owner rudely told me to take it out back despite there being a trash can by the door. A few minutes later, I went inside again to ask where the restroom was. Instead of answering, the owner barked at me and asked if I’d read the sign on the front door. When I said no, he started yelling that I’d have to buy something first, that nothing in his store was free, and that he doesn’t “cater to cheapskates.”
I hadn’t even had the chance to tell him I planned to buy a snack for my son afterward… not that I should have to justify using the restroom in the first place. The lack of trust and basic courtesy was unbelievable.
I told him I’d use the restroom somewhere else and turned to leave, but before walking out I said, “This is no way to run a business or treat customers.” As I was heading back to my truck, he suddenly came storming out the door, yelling that he didn’t want “my kind of people” or “my business.” My wife was panicking while buckling our son back into his seat as the owner paced around our truck and stared her down. She told me afterward that he got aggressively close to me on my way out from the store and said she truly believed he was about to punch me if she and her sister hadn’t been there.
I grew up being taught to support local businesses and always purchase something after using the store’s utilities. But this experience made it clear that this owner doesn’t want customers. I think he secretly wants to chain off his property and put a sign up that says "Visitors Unwelcome."
Later today, we stopped by a gas station in Eureka, UT, who told us that many Vernon residents avoid Silver Sage Café because the owner is extremely rude. Many of them will even drive out to Eureka to get gas and groceries, despite Silver Sage Café being much closer.
If you value being treated with basic respect or want to keep your family safe, then stay far away from Silver Sage Café. I’d rather pee out in the desert. At least it would be...
Read moreI can give everyone reading this a recap of our extremely uncomfortable experience with Brian, or, I can give Brian (the presumed owner) some advice:
You’re the only gig between Tooele and Eureka. Get over your obsession with your front door sign and customers wanting to use your public bathroom. 90% of people will buy something. 10% won’t. Deal with it. It’s part of having a business. Forcing people to buy something BEFORE using the restroom: extremely weird, neurotic, and unsanitary.
Unless you’re actively trying to self-destruct this business for some reason (which, if is the case, you’re doing an excellent job), please, you need to RELAX, my man.
We talked about our awkward experience with some folks in Eureka: you presently have a growing negative reputation. UDOT maintenance workers actively avoid your store. Resident in Vernon are embarrassed by your demeanor. These Google reviews won’t assist passing tourists looking for a place to rest and grab a quick snack.
Good luck, Brian. I wish you the best.
Anyone passing through: please, avoid this store...
Read moreWe stopped here to get snacks and were excited to learn they do burgers. Unfortunately, when we went inside, the gentleman was very rude. He made sure that we saw his sign on the door that says you have to pay to use the bathroom. My 5 year old really needed to go potty, so she went quickly while we got in line for burgers. He made rude comments the entire time, and finally outright said "I am not the stop for you." He also yelled at us about a dog running around outside that was not ours. We finally just bought some chips and left. Apparently, no one is welcome even if they advertise...
