We have been to Julio's once in 2023 and didn't really care for their food but we were gifted a gift card for Christmas last year so decided to give it another try. Upon entering the restaurant, I could see they were busy with patrons enjoying their food and atmosphere. We were greeted by a lovely server and a bowl of chips and sauces. I could see the oil glistening off of the chips and thought wow is that really necessary?!
We ordered a chicken taco bowl, a chorizo taco bowl, three tacos, 1 beef empanada, a chicken quesadilla with sides of Mexican rice and black beans, and two churros. The food looked good when it came out but noticed the food was really greasy/oily. The kids had the chicken quesadilla and tacos and enjoyed their meals. My husband and I did not enjoy our bowls - my chipotle chicken tasted funny but I tried to mix the ingredients to mask the taste of the chicken. The empanada was just ok - not a lot of filling but sure enough a very greasy shell. The kids approved of their churros but were disappointed that there was no ice cream or chocolate sauce to dip them in.
Shortly after we left the restaurant my stomach started hurting - most likely from the immense amount of oil/grease used to cook the food. I thought prices were also hefty for the quality of the food. We still have money on our gift card but most likely will give it to someone as we have no plans of returning to this restaurant. After being sick with stomach troubles, I also tossed all of the left overs. We just got back from a lovely holiday in Mexico and this restaurant definitely did not hit the mark on Mexican food. Sadly, South Jersey has some terrible food options and this restaurant is...
Read moreWe have eaten at Julio’s 3 times in the last month or 2. Our first experience was really great. Food was delicious, inside atmosphere is incredible! Second time we ate inside again… I ordered the exact same thing, but this time it was just mediocre. I had ordered nachos and there was hardly any cheese on them. I asked for queso to put on and was charged $2 for it. Odd, since the first time I ordered them there was plenty of cheese.
The third time we ordered pick up. We ordered 6 items through the app. Right off the bat when my husband picked up the order, 2 items of the 6 were missing. 1/3 of our order. Then, after driving the 25 minutes home several other things were not done correctly. Again we ordered 2 things of nachos, but selected the supreme option on the menu and paid the $2 each upcharge for lettuce, tomato and cheese to be added…. There was none of that on the nachos. In addition, guacamole is supposed to come with the nachos and there was none of that, either. We also ordered quesadillas for my kids this time and there was literally no cheese on them, just slopped on chicken that was super wet and soggy. It was a mess, and no one enjoyed them.
Had I left a review after our first visit I would have given it 4 stars at least. Now, 3 visits in… I’m reluctant even giving 2 stars, but my husband really liked his dish and the plain chips and salsa have consistently been great each time we’ve been. We will never order takeout again… definitely wasn’t worth the $100 bill… if we eat in again, I’ll just stick to...
Read moreI own a business so I understand how important appearance to the general public can be. However, I also understand to maintain a good appearance you must also earn your keep. My family and I ( 3 of us including an 8 year old child) came in to sit and eat dinner. We were served our drinks and appetizer, and then we waited for our main course. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally after almost a full hour we were informed that one of our orders couldn't be filled due to the restaurant running out of an ingredient that was in one of the dishes we ordered. For further context, the restaurant wasn't packed, and we only ordered regular menu items without anything substituted or special. We ended up just packing up the portion of what was fulfilled and leaving so that we could get food for the rest of my family. Needless to say this absolutely screwed our night up and made everyone unhappy. The idea of running out of an ingredient is understandable. The idea of not telling us for 45 minutes and bringing out the rest of the order at the same time is not understandable to me. The absolute lack of communication is what I find unacceptable. I would rather have been told up front so we could pay for our appetizer and drinks and then just go elsewhere. I feel as if this was done intentionally so that the food which was already made would still be paid for and it seems a bit...
