Went here with my family today two time once with the kids and once without, and the first time was great around 630pm for dinner everything was great including the service! The second time just me and my husband came and we sat at the bar at about 9:20 (us knowing it’s close to closing time) but knew they didn’t close until 10pm. We came in and sat down at the bar. We were not greeted at all, sat there for about 7 minutes before someone came over to us. It was a male and female bartender they did see us, but I guess we’re just busy. Finally, the female bartender had came over and asked us what she could get started, I immediately said oh we just would like to order dessert and a drink. At that point she did not answer or reply to what I said she just grabbed menus and put them in front of us. We told her that we would like the s’mores skillet for two and also, I would like the s’mores martini , she started making this martini after putting in our order as she was making it her and the male bartender were right in front of us and the male bartender said I don’t know who would order that drink I wouldn’t spend my money on a drink that has no alcohol in it. They were very clearly annoyed that we were at the bar, even though we knew to hurry, and we did we left about 9:47. Unfortunately, we did not feel welcome at that time. We did plan on spending quite a bit of money just to down some quick drinks before going back home to finish out our vacation. Unfortunately, we did only order one drink and had our dessert. I had apologized to them about us coming in so close to closing and the male Bartender just looks away and said oh it happens… so needless to say yes I will Definitely bring my family back, but I refuse to sit at that bar again, and feel unwelcomed regardless of the time. Coming from someone that works in a high end restaurant, in the Service industry for years … these bartenders need to understand that their shift is not over until all customers are gone and the restaurant is closed… I guess they didn’t want a great tip from a server/bartender who knows how to tip and loves to leave extra when given great service 🤷🏻♀️
On the plus side the DRINKS ARE AMAZING HERE! Along...
Read moreWe ate on the patio at Campfire Grill on a lovely spring evening. While eating we spotted deer, wood chucks, squirrels, chipmunks, and even a skunk. There were no golfers out while we sat on the patio around 7:00pm on a Friday night which made the manicured fairway surrounded by trees an excellent backdrop to our meal. The setting was the stand out of our experience here.
We were traveling with three small children and the service helped us to a great table and helped us get a high chair. We were able to order quickly and the food came out in about 20 minutes. Our dishes were the "Outer Banks", a pasta dish with a tomato based sauce and shrimp, the macaroni and cheese which had crumbles of thick bacon sprinkled on top, and the chicken and biscuit skillet. Each of the dishes tasted good. They were not good enough to make us want to return and order again during our stay.
The location is very convenient for those staying near the summit condos or hotels. Walking down to the location proved to be difficult and I would recommend driving even if it appears to be a short walk from wherever you are staying. There are not really any sidewalks and the grade of the road, lack of lighting, and narrow shoulders make a walk more dangerous than it should be.
The service was great. We enjoyed our server and she helped us despite being pretty busy. We asked about dessert options and she recommended the cookie skillet which was the most memorable dish we ate here. The cookie was warm and gooey, and it was topped with ice cream, which added a nice contrast to the warm cookie.
We would eat here again if staying on the resort. It was the best food option we found while eating on the resort but it is probably not worth traveling too if you are not already up on...
Read moreWhen, oh when will I learn? Never, ever go out to eat a late lunch. No matter where. Yes, the crowds are non-existent but for some reason, I never have a good experience and the Campfire Grill was no exception.
Tucked away at the Massanutten resort, the recent redesign produced a nice appearance and we were looking forward to a visit. Rustic yet obviously modern. Not bad. However, once we finally got inside, I found the lunch menu to be a little disappointing and I had a hard time finding something to order. I finally settled on a blackened prime rib sandwich. Trying to be a good eater, I ordered a broccoli and rice side instead of the fries. When my plate arrived with fries on it, I pointed out the error. Our server apologized and offered to get the broccoli, but I let it slide. I just didn't want to bother and I hate having to wait for just a part of my meal. I didn't eat many of the fries. The sandwich was - okay. The bread was a little too crunchy and that made the sandwich difficult to handle. By the time you bite through it, you've squished the contents out the other side. I wouldn't order it again.
And of course, no review is complete without the obligatory trip to the latrine, the head, the water closet. While the Men's room was clean and functional, my wife reported that the Women's restroom was, "stinky." That's never good.
So, while I should probably give them the benefit of the doubt and another chance, I probably won't suggest going back to the Grill on our next visit to...
