I’d give them 10 stars on a 5 star scale. Honestly, this is my new favorite place!!! To the owner and staff… guys, please never change a thing!!! We ordered via Uber Eats and had the food delivered. Everything we asked for was there, not a single thing was missing. The entire menu looked so delicious it was difficult to choose, but every single thing was amazing, in my opinion. If I see catfish on the menu I have a real hard time considering anything else. The catfish was perfect!!! And I never ruin a steak with condiments, and I never ruin catfish with condiments either. But the tartar sauce was delicious and I did have to pair the perfect catfish with the delicious tartar sauce, and it was better than I ever would have expected. And the potato salad… I am very picky about potato salad and am not used to finding green pepper chunks in it, but it was amazing!!! So much better than the celery chunks so many other people use (I hate celery chunks in my potato salad, and excessive celery seeds also.) I like tangy potato salad with a lot of mustard and the green pepper chunks complement the mustard and really makes yours stand out from others. I am also a Carolina vinegar sauce kind of guy for my pulled pork normally, but I am so used to disappointment with that from other places, plus I was intrigued by the cherry- bourbon sauce so we got that to try. I really liked it, for a sweet sauce. My first thought was that it would make a phenomenal pot of beans. The pulled pork itself was also perfect. Not too greasy, not too dry, actually seemed to have been smoked at the perfect temperature for long enough… Our Uber eats driver was also quick and had picked up the whole order. All in all, a perfect experience (which is as hard to come by as a leprechaun these days, especially when ordering from an outside delivery service). This dinner could not have been better!!! Thank you to everyone who was...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Deep Run BBQ, having heard about them through a local BBQ competition in the newspaper, where they are finalists competing with Ronnie’s. Naturally, as a BBQ fanatic, I had to see what the buzz was about.
I’ve sampled BBQ from all over—Ronnie’s, ZZQ, Buz & Ned’s (my personal favorite), Q BBQ, and Alamo, plus legendary spots in Kansas City (Gates, Arthur Bryant’s, Q39), Memphis (Central, Corky’s), Phoenix (Little Miss BBQ), and Texas (Black’s, Snow’s, Stubbs), to name a few.
At Deep Run BBQ, the meat was undeniably tender, moist, and well-seasoned. However, what caught me off guard was the complete absence of smoke—both in the restaurant and, more importantly, in the food. I tried the brisket, ribs, wings, and sausage, all of which were cooked beautifully, but I couldn’t detect even a trace of smoke nor smoke rings on the brisket. The greens and beans were decent, but without that smoky backbone, the meal fell just short of greatness. The meats almost tasted as if they had been baked rather than smoked. They must be doing something right, as they often sell out from what I see.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I considered whether the recent surge in business from the competition may have led to a shorter smoke time to accommodate volume. Hoping it was just me, I revisited the meal later that night with a second plate—but still, no smoke.
It’s a shame because everything else was spot on. If the flavors had that rich, wood- or coal-smoked essence, this would have been an easy five-star—or even six-star—experience. I’d love to give them another shot in the future, especially if they bring that deep, smoky character to their BBQ! For now, I have to go with four stars simply because the meats had all the expected characteristics of a top-notch BBQ restaurant except the smoke. v/r,...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to hire them to cater our wedding reception. When we were still in the process of deciding our various vendors, one of my sisters recommended Deep Run Roadhouse as they had recently catered a birthday party. I contacted Deep Run and they very quickly sent over a catering menu and a packet of information. They also set up a free tasting event for my husband and I- AND TWO GUESTS. We both chose our mothers. Going into the tasting event, we were told we would leave full but it was amazing to see everything they had set up. We were served in a room off to the side of the restaurant. We got nice sized portions of almost everything on the menu. They had inquired about food allergies/sensitivies and I have several regarding red meat, pork, etc. When we got there, everything that I couldn't eat was on its own tray away from me. The worker helpfully explained all of the food, the various plating and serving options, drinks and then respectively left the room while we tried everything and discussed the various food, prices, etc. He later returned and answered every question we had. My husband and I decided to hire Deep Run for our reception as the food was delicious and the price was fair. Throughout the process, they were easy to contact and answer any question we had. The day of the wedding, they delivered on time, and were very professional in setting up. The food was fantastic! My husband and I heard a lot of comments from everyone enjoying the food. We ordered both pulled chicken and pork, texas rope sausage, green beans, roasted sweet potatoes, potato salad, Cole slaw, corn bread, rolls and tea. Everything was delicious and lots of brochures were taken from pleased guests. We were so happy and amazed at the wonderful service and food...
