We are local and had high hopes for this place. I’m not sure if we just came on a busy night when they were short staffed or if this is the norm but it took 90 + minutes to get a paneer jalfraze and a portobello paninni. I think we may have been served by the owner but i could be making an incorrect assumption. If we were, kudos to him for jumping in to help his staff, if he was a regular server there were some fundamental basics overlooked that are 101 in the service industry (communication regarding delays and checking in about drink refills and after the food is delivered are a start)
The taste of the food had potential but the long wait left us almost ready to leave. We were contemplating our plan b when we were brought complimentary salads which were very very good and a wine pour was heavy that felt like an acknowledgement of the wait without it being mentioned directly. We were excited for dinner despite the wait but when it arrived the bottom of the panini was soggy and the fries were not hot. Nothing about it said “panini”. It was mushy bottom sandwich at best. The taste was there, it could have been good if it didn’t arrive to the table like it had sat under lamps for the last 20 min. Since we weren't checked in with again until it was time for our bill there was no opportunity to fix the meal short of one of us going back to the kitchen or loudly trying to flag someone down (neither of which fit our personality types). The feedback we offered without inquiry was met with kindness and offers of dessert on the house, however, by then we were past ready to get home.
I imagine they get a lot of their business from the neighboring hotel where being a repeat customer is limited and doesn’t really affect their bottom line. We live close by, we both entertain clients in our line of work and we go out a lot. We were so hopeful this place would at least be ok. I’m sad that the experience left enough to be desired that it’s unlikely we’ll be back, despite the offer of complimentary dessert if we return. First impressions, when poor, are hard to recover from and taking 30 min to get a hello and water after being seated and another hour and a half to get food are poor first impressions. We do wish them much success and hope for the sake of others this was an unusual night for them. I’ve worked in the service industry, good communication and even an apology can really...
Read moreIt’s nice to have a fancier restaurant in Ruckersville. There’s not a lot of dining options so I’m very happy this restaurant opened up.
It’s on the pricey side and the portions are small. I ordered a curry dish that said it came with naan bread. I was expecting a homemade large round naan but instead I got 3 small triangles of what tasted like pita bread. Even if you don’t hand make the naan, I’ve had better store bought naan.
Also on the website it shows focaccia bread. There is no focaccia bread on the menu so I was thinking they would offer the bread on the table with oil like other restaurants offer complimentary bread. No focaccia or any bread offered at all. That was a big let down. Why show a picture of something you don’t even offer? I would have been more than happy to even purchase the bread.
My last little quirk is with the booths. Maybe it was just the booth we sat in but the booth seat is too close to the table. Anyone with a little extra fluff would have a little problem fitting comfortably into a booth. Also the booth backing is a straight 90 degree angle and feels much like sitting in a church pew.
On a slight side note: I have AT&T, my husband has Xfinity and the restaurant is located in a total cell phone dead zone for both providers. I wanted to look up what something on the menu looks like and I couldn’t. May be nice to add photos to the dishes on the menu or offer WiFi password to guests.
Other than those few details, the meals were delicious and the atmosphere was very nice.. Hopefully these are some things they will improve on. I do highly recommend them even though I had some small issues that are totally fixable.
PS: Daily or Weekly specials and Happy Hour specials would be a...
Read moreI am generally not one to leave reviews but I felt I needed to share my two experiences here. I travel for work, which allows me the opportunity to see how many different restaurants operate and taste lots of different foods. The restaurant is very clean and the table has a very nice appearance. I have been waited on by the owner Vinny both times, who was always very welcoming, helpful and wanting to do whatever it takes to make the food what I would like. The first time (6+ months ago) I was here, I had the lamb curry as it was his recommendation. When the salad came out I knew I was at the right place. By far the best salad I have ever had… very fresh and was accompanied by a homemade dressing. The lamb curry was absolutely amazing. My only regret is I knew I wouldn’t be back for seconds for a while, and almost ordered food to go but I have no way to keep it cold in my travels, unfortunately. Last night my crew and I did not make it in until late, but the owner went above and beyond to make sure we were served HOT, fresh food that was absolutely delicious. I called ahead to alleviate our late timeline because I specifically came here to eat at his restaurant again and he was more than willing to accommodate. I also had the tiramisu which was to die for. Don’t wait to “be in the area” to try this place. It is absolutely some of the best food I have found in my travels around the world. The food has been consistently good, same pleasurable atmosphere and very welcoming. I cannot recommend this place more, and with the unique menu I honestly don’t think there is a place anywhere like it. Thank you, Vinny, to you and your staff on your hard work and dedication...
