Honestly so cute , so inviting and the service was great. On that note You can't run a business without Constructive criticism if the customer base isn't happy then their is always room for improvement. I decided to try this place after passing by quite a few times and I guess the starts just aligned cause today was the day. However I'm left with unfortunately a bad review not due to service or cleanliness, it's the coffee 😕 🙃 if your going to offer coffee , my advice as a Barista, is please go through your procedures of making that coffee and make sure it's something to rave about as a business owner I'd expect nothing less from a product I was selling. I got a coffee and wanted a Iced Latte however what I imagined is something way more different then what I Received. I had a conversation with the gal up front about how strong the espresso was and she informed me in shorter terms she didn't like coffee and didn't know. So that left me In a strange difficult position to continue to place an order however I decided I was here might as well give it a go but the coffee I got was a 12 oz golden hour with apparently 2 shots of espresso, I was left in disappointment because when I took my first sip I tasted nothing but milk the drink itself was even too white to be called a iced latte , my drink was SOUR !! with a burnt after taste as someone whom thrives on coffee and the know abouts it , it would appear (without seeing of course ) The Beans may be Too coarse, If the grind is too coarse, water will pass through the coffee too quickly, resulting in under-extraction and a weak, sour taste. So some Provisions need to be taken to readjust the Procedures. Because I couldn't even finish the drink and I paid 8$$ for a 12 oz However there could be many reasons why the drink turned out the way it did , Stale beans aka improper storage, Water Temperature, Machine Issues aka Unclean machine. whatever the case may be as a paying customer I'm just here to give honest feedback to hopefully help the company grow and Flourish. Hopefully it was just a one time thing might be back at a later date to try again, But we will see. I still appreciate how kind...
Read moreI really enjoyed this little place! The building was adorable, located in historic Toano, next to the newer fire station. You could tell that the floors were original and refinished, and I loved that! They have inside and outside seating. The employees were so nice.
I had the chai latte, a staple for me (along side the house coffee). I enjoyed it, it was not overly spicy or overly milky, but you could taste the chai.
My husband had the en rouge, a roobios tea. We drink teas frequently, as they’re just so good for you! The roobios is one of our favorites. His was very light, the milk was not overpowering. It was a light roobios with cream, he enjoyed it.
Now for the food, we were super impressed. I have a gluten issue, so I asked the cashier what is gluten free and there were multiple options (what a surprise)! I opted for a delicious caramel granola cake, it was incredible. The flavor was light and sweet but not overpowering. The granola added a fantastic crunch and the outside of the cake was baked perfectly. I’m coming back for this cake.
My husband had the muffin, which I could also try (yay!). The muffin was light and was not super sweet, they really let the berries do the sweetening on this one. We really enjoyed that as well.
We also got a brownie, 10/10 recommend if you love fudge brownies! My husband enjoyed it too but could only eat half after his muffin!
Overall, adorable shop...
Read moreI'm a Williamsburg native and Hohl has delivered the coffee/latte quality and experience I've craved for years.
Atmosphere is warm and inviting. It's a great place to linger with loved ones, catch up, and create new memories. Only note is that it's a bit loud, but that's because Hohl is loved by many. I'm not sure if they can do anything to fix that.
Parking is easy at both locations. The Toano location has a parking lot on-site and a gravel lot adjacent to the building. The CW location has a parking garage behind it and hourly street parking.
If you're into coffee, you'll like it here. They HOUSE MAKE their syrups (which is awesome) and offer two sizes; 8oz and 12oz and do solid pour overs. It feels like the coffee scene from RVA is finally trickling into Williamsburg.
If you have food sensitivities, there's gluten-free options and vegan options available. I don't think they're 100% celiac friendly, but they have those disclaimers on the menu, I believe.
The staff is service-oriented and kind. Very accommodating and knowledgeable about the products. Shout out to Hosea for being a great barista!
As far as food, bev, and vibes go in the Burg, Hohl is one of the best things that's happened to the city. Very stoked to have Hohl in town and to see what the owners do next. Please support local...
