Headed to Sunday brunch, I noticed a line outside the Paladin Woolen Mill “P2", so we pulled in and got in for the first seating of the revitalized restaurant that has been on our radar. It is NOTHING like the old mill. We were NOT disappointed, even though the staff said it was their first day of service. We ordered the “bucking bull” nachos with beef, a mountain of beer cheese, pico de gallo, black beans, corn, chips and salsa, and sour cream—a meal in itself. I had the fried chicken skillet with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. My dining partner had a big portion of the teriyaki spiced salmon, with Asian slaw, rice, and sautéed spinach. When I saw one of the big hamburgers at the next table that I’ll try next time, we also learned that the bartender, Amy, has quite a following and serves a lot of “sass with class.” The boss “Dan” kept a watchful eye on everything. We are fans of the original Paladin further south on I-81, so we had high expectations for P2. It will be an exciting place. Dan said opening P2 was the toughest of their restaurants due to covid, construction delays, and staffing shortages affecting everyone. The place is simply understated elegance, with four or five antique chandeliers from Bailywyck Antiques in The Plans. The bar has to be one of the longest in Virginia, spanning the old and new parts of the building. It appears there will be an area for music. The back area has more tables and chairs and overlooks a nearby park. The outdoor patio looks to seat 25 or 30 more. Once this place gets going, it will be a fun hangout for locals. I won’t spoil the surprise on the back of the menu, but opening a restaurant “ain’t...
Read moreTried this place for the first time. I was so looking forward to the experience. Our server was not interested in me, my party. I got the feeling we were bothering her. She couldn’t be bothered!!! The ice tea was very cloudy. The food no flavor!!! I got the pork chops and they are served on grits. The grits were so bad. Funny after taste.she never gave me a sharp knife.Sorry a butter knife for pork chops??? Side salad was very good. Dressing was great!! Serving it to me in a paper French fry basket NO!!! Fish tacos had no flavor at all!! A citrus drizzle and less coleslaw could have made it much better. Brunswick stew was very good. The meatloaf was fair the mashed potatoes were terrible.Chicken and waffles the presentation awful. Boneless breast two thin but very good waffles. If you wish to be more upscale than an Applebees you are going to have to put in the work. Nice atmosphere. Seats were comfortable.i would try it again but just for a burger or a salad entree which they serve in a bowl. Did not feel I got any value for the food for what...
