Went here for the first time with a friend. We opted for Nepalese dishes as these are harder to find. My friend ordered the Nepali curry and enjoyed her dish so much she took the little bit of chicken and lots of gravy home with the rice: the pan fried pork kothey momos were delicious and came with a bright orange spicy dipping sauce. We originally were going to get the chicken kothey momos but the server recommended the pork which was tender and juicy. It was shaped round like a soup dumpling and not like those pictured. I have ordered momos before and the round shape is the traditional style. I ordered the Everest karahi as I like both lamb and chicken and it was a huge portion that will be three meals as we ordered the herb and Himalayan special naan. I highly recommend the Himalayan special naan as it is sweet and savory. The naan was freshly made and the rice was the only item that was dry and bland. The spice level for the Everest karahi was perfect medium and generous amount of proteins. the chicken was perfect, the lamb was a little gamey so if you don’t like strong lamb flavor this is not the dish for you. Lots of onions and peppers and if you allow the rice to mix with the sauce long enough it tastes even better. The restaurant is spacious very clean and inviting. Tables are spaced appropriately so you aren’t bumping into anyone and are able to have a nice conversation with little noise. Service was great and when I was paying the check, I mentioned I was treating my friend for lunch as it was her birthday the next day. the server later asked us to stay a few More minutes and he and the manager (likely owner) came out with a metal cup of gazar halwa and a lit candle. They offered to play happy birthday on the tv but we politely declined as I sang to my friend instead. It was completely unexpected and the dessert was delicious. It is fragrant carrot dish that has texture of rice pudding but infused with spices that you just can’t get enough. The sliced almonds and cashews on top were the perfect final touch to the dish. Truly memorable and amazing experience. I wish I lived closer but will definitely stop in the next time I am in the...
Read moreThis place is an unexpected gem to find out near Fort Walker (formerly AP Hill). We love India food and have visited several Nepalese restaurants. I usually prefer Indian food over Nepalese but this place changed my mind. The food here was excellent, and I will say right off that we are already planning to go back so we can try a greater variety of what they have to offer. This time we ordered Mango Lassi, Fried Chicken Momo, Nepali curry with goat, lamb Korma, lamb Tass, herb Naam with Raita, and Kulfi for dessert. The Nepali curry was truly special, as was the kulfi. Both were flavored with cardamom and really showcased the different aspects of this spice. The staff was friendly, and the owner was personable and inviting. I'm glad they are part of our community. The atmosphere is pleasant and unassuming. Overall, the food was great, and even though we live an hour away, we can't wait go back. Thank you!
Edit: On our second visit, we ordered Samaya Baji, Nepali Thali Set, Goan Curry with fish, and Lamb Saag. Everything again was wonderful, but the Goan Curry really stole the show, so rich, creamy, and well balanced. The lentils in the Nepali Thali may have been the best lentils I've ever had. I went back for seconds, and I usually can't stand lentils. The special Naan was the perfect dessert to this meal. The filling appeared to be blended to a fine paste and really made it stand out over others I've had that left the filling chunky. I love visiting this place, they make us feel at home, and the experience makes for a memorable date night....
Read moreI went there with several friends and we had an amazing time at this Restaurant. The service was wonderful and everyone was warm and friendly. But the best part was the food.
We got an array of appetizers and entrees. Personally I loved the Gobi Manchurian. I've had this in other restaurants but it is always too sweet. Here is was lightly spiced with a touch of sweetness that was very pleasing. The Timurey Kukhura ko Panga (the spiced and roasted chicken gizzards) was also very good. It was just spicy enough to invigorate the appetite. However if you are not a fan of spicy food, the wait staff are more than willing to accommodate. You also have to try their momos.
I also recommend the Korma and Nepali curry. Depending on the protein you order with the dishes, changes very subtly. I personally got the Nepali curry with fish and the sauce was so good I had to finish it was the naan, (personally I preferred the plain over the garlic naan, but they have options).
If you want to explore traditional Nepali dishes and flavor profile, I highly recommend this place. Also you cannot leave without trying their dessert. Being Bengali I am very partial to the Rashmalai (it was delicious), but from my friend's reactions the other desserts were...
