5+5🌟 Well, the Apple doesn't fall far from the tree does it? Even though, The shanty is supposed to be owned by Dino's son, we can figure where the talent came from anyway! Dino's success, well, it's going to leave a huge legacy for his family. And, I couldn't be happier! Eating Dino's food for decades, it's almost like family! I remember standing around his counter in the old place which is now a hillary's, and talking world events and politics! With some of the other regulars, it was like a Greek Cafe where all the news and world's problems are disseminated. Unfortunately, that seems like a billion years ago, lol! And the world has gotten much much worse! I digress....... Needless to say, my dinner was wonderful and my wife enjoyed hers as well. I'll post some pics, but, I can't really say anymore about Dino and his family's Enterprise than I've already said in my Captain Porky's review. I really saw his kids grow up, and thinking back to when I first met Dino, and see what he's built, it's quite astounding! I really would make this a destination point, because this type of establishment run by these type of folks are few and far between. Climate change and pollution will probably make a huge impact on these establishments in the not too distant future!

Atmosphere was completely off and immediately after entering I felt unwelcome. Food and service were underwhelming. We were seated next to the only other non white people which felt very off. I tried to brush that off but then a waitress placed hot sauces on our table even though we did not ask for them and did not even have food at our table. Not very happy experiencing micro aggressions on what was supposed to be a nice night out. If it weren’t for the fact that we were there on the birthday persons request, I would have left. We asked for a cupcake for her and it was not brought until we had paid and had gotten up to leave. The seating here is very odd as well. Feels too casual and awkward. Like they ordered a bunch of table and just crammed them in. It was freezing here as well. The appetizers we ordered were the green bean casserole, quesadillas, meatball sliders, and shrimp cocktail. Sliders were not spicy at all, bean casserole was so so, quesadillas were ok and shrimp cocktail was underwhelming. It seemed like it was just plain tomato sauce. I got the lamb shank which I didn’t really like but I think that is just due to my palette. The rice that came with it was not good at all. It was drenched in some sort of funky sauce. My boyfriends dish was good but the potatoes were smothered in something very funky too. The restaurant has an odd smell as soon as you enter. Could be the wood or something they use to condition it but it just smelled like dog food to me.

The food is decent. I had the cedar plank salmon. It came with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The sauce on the fish itself was very sweet, honestly the only flavor that came through was brown sugar. I was a tad disappointed by this but the fish itself was good and fresh and cooked well. The potato’s did not have any garlic that I could really taste but were good either way. The veggies were okay, not seasoned at all,bland. The carrots were basically raw. They still had a crunchy center but carrots are carrots. I did have higher expectations for my meal with the price, it didn’t deliver the way I had wanted it to. The stuffed pepper soup that came with the meal was excellent! We also had the charcuterie board which I did not eat and calamari. The calamari was delicious, hot and crunchy and the board was good according to everyone who had it. Another small improvement is the pace of service. We arrived at 5pm and didn’t get our bill until 6:30. That is a tad longer than expected. We ordered everything within the first 15mins of the meal and there was only 4 adults. Two of us ordered cheeseburgers and then 2 fish dishes which does not take that long to make. I have worked in restaurants and fine dining and can say that is a tad long for a table time. Besides these things the experience was nice. I just expected more.

What a fantastic dinner, my compliments to the Staff!! Our server was Johnathan. So friendly and very knowledgeable with the menue. This was our first visit and the food was phenomenal with an excellent presentation! My compliments to the chef! Appetizers Calamari/ excellent, the Sampler also excellent, the Crabs cakes/ delicious. Entrees: Honey Glazed Salmon, Bison Burger, Cajun Shrimp & Scallops, Sesame crusted Ahi Tuna, Chicken Saltimbocca. Each meal was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. It's a little on the pricey side; but worth every penny. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. The restaurant has a very rustic contemporary feel. It is very large and roomy, can easily accommodate large groups. I did see any high chairs so I'm assuming they cater to older youth and Adults. I didn't see any children's menue choices. Great atmosphere for date night!! I will definitely be back and truly hope you give them a chance and have a Wonderful experience as I and my family!!@

I’m so glad I came to The Shanty! The atmosphere is very unique and it was cool to walk through the brick passageway to the original Shanty. I started with some yummy Clam Chowder, which was a great way to kick off the meal. I got the Poor Man’s Lobster (cod) and Brussels Sprouts. The cod was very delicious and well seasoned. It was in a layer of oil and paired with side vegetables. I must also add that the portion was very large. I took home two meals-worth of fish. The Brussels Sprouts were good but I don’t think they were necessary for the $5 extra as a premium side. The balsamic was just a little strong and the vegetables were a little too soft for me. The people I was with were very satisfied with what they ordered and the Chocolate Cake dessert (I forget what it’s called) was massive! Our server was great and offered wonderful recommendations. I paid $38 with tip and enjoyed the leftover cod for two meals the next day. I’ll have to come back for live music! 5 stars!

We were excited to come back home to Lake County and to have dinner with our family at the restaurant associated with the owner of Captain Porky's, whom my husband knew from school. The atmosphere is very nice and the food, when it arrived was very good, but the service was severely lacking. There were 6 in our party, with 2 separate checks for a 6:15 reservation. We received our appetizers about 20 minutes after ordering. But after another 20 minutes when I asked to speak to the manager, Jackie, the salads were served. Jackie said our entrées would be out in about 12 minutes, but it took about 20 more minutes. Meanwhile, other groups of the same size had received their meals, ate and had left. Our server Michelle C, was not attentive, while the other servers were back and forth to their tables Michelle C was nowhere in sight. We did notice we were the only black people in the entire restaurant, but we really hope that was not the factor for the poor service we received.
