I'm actually in a state of shock. How, on earth, does this place have 4 star reviews? A little about my experience with Mexican food; I lived in Austin, Texas. I know what Mexican food is; this isn't it.
It was as if nothing, absolutly nothing, was flavored. The chips salsa had NO spice to it, it was shockingly bad. To think they also charge you for more chips, more of those flavorless chips and that repulsive 'salsa'; for shame.
They served me a horchata in a large pouring glass and didn't give me a glass to pour it into, so I just used a straw and sipped it strait from the pouring glass. Comical. Also it was watery and didn't have the proper texture / flavor that a real horchata should have.
Then, the 'crack' fries. I'm not entirely certain what I was expecting, but what I got was dry, overdone fries with..stuff haphazardly thrown about it. It was awful. It had a semblance of flavor, not that the flavors worked but hey, I'll respect an attempt.
The capstone to my night of sheer gastronomic horror was the birria tacos. I did not know that you could make them that bad. It is actually a feat of culinary wizardry to make something so awesome, taste so bad. The meat was cold. How? I have NO idea.
The meat was also not seasoned at all, it was tasteless. The dipping sauce fared no better, it was off color and texture and added nothing but a watery greasiness (devoid of any seasoning) to the spectacular failure that was a birria taco.
The four stars make sense though, now that I am considering it. They always say that when you are aiming for some good cultural food, or well done Americanized cultural food, look at the people in the restaurant. As I sat there, it was full of white, middle class people, with the occasional geriatric that was surely thrilled they were having 'exciting' food because their tastebuds had long since given up the ghost.
None of them know any better, and I don't blame them. I cannot fault a customer for not knowing. This type of place is geared towards those who think they are getting Mexican food when really they couldn't be further from the truth.

Read moreReally enjoyed the food here, I had two steak chimichangas. Unfortunately I had ordered a different chimichanga and because of some miscommunication I got the wrong order, however what I did get was actually very good and I really enjoyed it and was not disappointed at all. When I told the waiter about the mixup, he took 3 dollars off the order, even though they had only charged us an extra 2 dollars, so we basically got a free dollar off of our meal and I got food that I probably enjoyed more than I would have if I had received the correct order! So honestly it was a win-win. The server was very nice and handled it all very well and the service was fast and we were in and out in less than an hour, although we stayed just a little past the hour to chat and the staff didn't seem to mind. Overall, it was a really nice experience and I'm glad I just went with the flow and enjoyed what I got. I will definitely be back for another set of steak chimichangas! They really scratched an itch I've been having for a long time, their queso topping was SO delicious and the tortillas were fried to...
Read moreI called around 630pm to ask if they did breakfast all day. The guy that answered said, “well, not really. But it’s not that busy. We can make breakfast for you!” Whaaaat??!! Where can you get service like that?? Can’t say enough good things about El Aztecas! Service was truly amazing. Food was absolutely fantastic. When we got there, it was about 85% full. But from the time we placed the order to the time it was placed in front of my excited face, it was maaaaaybe 10 mins! Couldn’t believe how fast they were. And then!! It was friggin delicious! Patty was our server and such a sweetheart. If you get her, you’re gonna be treated like a king or queen! Anyway, gonna be here a LOT now. Can’t wait to come back and i’m still sitting here, lol! Oh. We had the tres leches French toast and the Alahambre omelette (pictured). We also had the classic burrito, cheesesteak omelette, and the fajitas. All 10s. We also had horchatas. I drank a lot before taking a pic, but look at the size of this thing (for reference, i’m 6’3 w giant hands). You will not be...
