Today we decided to explore further outside of our area. After some quick conversation we settled on The Seafood Shack. We spent $80 and left a $20 tip.
What we ordered- Cajun Calamari Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail She Crab Soup Choose 3 Dinner Sweet Tea I will only comment on things I personally tasted
We sat at our table and were greeted with a large, bright and friendly smile. That smile belongs to a woman named Robin who has been with the company that owns this establishment for 40+ years.
The atmosphere is very boardwalk beach vibe, yet in an unimpressive lot on the side of the road. It almost looked like a place Truckers keep secret! 🤫 Walking in changes everything. Family friendly and very comfortable environment.
Let’s get to the food!🥘
The Cajun Calamari- Breaded, seasoned and fried. Great crunch, not chewy. Decent taste. A bit greasy and it doesn’t live up to its name. I would recommend adding more cayenne, paprika, and just a touch of sugar to balance the saltiness of it. For me it was a 5/10
Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail- I did not try this. However I noticed that not all of the shrimp were deveined. For that reason I refused to try it. For me No Rating
She Crab Soup- Thicker than you may like. They delivered on the crab. Healthy portions. However, because I’m also a Chef and a Nutritional Scientist, I see some mistakes in this recipe. Overall flavor is good. Needs more heat, and should be thinned out using half and half or sour cream. Worth trying if you like chowder style dishes. For me 7.5/10
Choose 3 Dinner- Whitefish- 7-9oz Whitefish fried to great standards for what this place is. Not greasy. Juicy and very tender. Lacks severely in flavor. Almost no seasoning at all. More Hot Sauce PLZ! 😝 4/10
Chicken Tenders- Juicy and Tender. Also fried to great standards for what this place is. Not greasy. Unfortunately, this too lacked seasoning. 4/10
Jumbo Shrimp- Very good. Fresh taste, loved them. Not greasy. Again, not seasoned enough for me. 6.4/10
Fries- Not crispy enough for me, no bite to them. Freezer Fries. And someone in the back is deathly afraid of the salt dish. For me 0/10
Hush puppies- Fried well, not greasy. Commercial taste. I was hoping for a more homemade vibe. Not happening. For me 2.5/10
Sweet Tea- Not overly sweet. Classic southern staple! 8.1/10
Overall 5.5/10
This location has been in operation since 2006. The Seafood Shack is one of a few family-owned, sit-down restaurants in Walkertown, the Forsyth County town of about 6,000. Owner George Paloumbas transformed the former John Deere dealership on Darrow Road into a seafood restaurant in 2006. He envisioned a casual, beach-inspired joint — wood siding, metal awning, and colorful signs. Walkertown Seafood Shack became that setting for landlubbers: coverall-clad mechanics on their lunch breaks, families celebrating birthdays, and retirees out for their weekly dinner date. It also became a fixture in Shipman’s life as well as his loving and loyal patrons.

Read moreWe visited the dining room on Sunday, 01/30/22. 15 minute wait to be seated, no big deal. There was a sign outside the dining room that they were out of wings, crab legs and something else but I can't recall what it was. Once seated, we looked over the menu and ordered appetizers, buffalo shrimp and bacon cheese fries. Both came out fairly quickly and were piping hot. Both appetizers were very good. The flavor of the buffalo sauce made me really wish they'd had wings, but I understand how things are presently. Fries were crispy with loads of cheese and bacon.
We ordered entrees and when they came out, this is where this rating took a turn. I'll begin with the good. My youngest wanted peel and eat shrimp. We ordered a pound and they were pretty good. They were a good size. They could have used more seasoning but that's not even a thing as we asked for some Old Bay and the waitress brought some extra out. My oldest got a burger and he said it was good.
Now for the bad. My wife got the fried Captains Platter and it was disappointing. The piece of fish WAY overcooked and dry. It wasn't flaky, it was crumbly. Only 1 of the 4 or 5 oysters was edible. She gave me one that I popped right in my mouth and I'm not sure what I ate but it wasn't a good oyster. The popcorn shrimp were more like breaded sea monkeys. The deviled crab was just unidentifiable mush. The scallops were pretty good, as were the hush puppies. I got the stuffed flounder and the flounder part was pretty good. Well seasoned and flaky. The "stuffing" was the same unidentifiable mush as the deviled crab. Advertised as their "homemade crab stuffing", I saw nothing in it that resembled crab meat. It was just lukewarm, brown, flavored mush.
We really wanted to like the seafood but the entrees were a bit disappointing. The staff and the apps were good, so we will probably come back. Hopefully they'll have wings and crab...
Read moreThe food is great just make sure if you have a to go order you check the order before pulling from the window. They have a sign on the window that says if you pull off and tour missing food they are not responsible. I dont think thats right when you have regular customers. I live in Kitty Hawk NC and never have i seen a sign like that on any restaurant window which is tacky. We ordered two steak and shrimp dinners with a half a 1 lb of peel shrimp and 2 side of okras. We pulled from the window but didn't leave the lot and realized a steak and shrimp was missing. We went back through drive thru let her know and she had someone make it which we waited over 45 mins. I should have open the order containers completely open instead of peeking in each box when we got home I just figured when you spend that much on food you really shouldnt have to check each container but we noticed none of our steak dinners had the shrimp in it mind you this was a $78.00 order. I call the restaurant and and spoke to a women who said the manager or owner said they would honor us our shrimp on our next order because they was about to close and they had my name and order ticket. When I called the next week to place another order they did not honor it. We had no reason to lie we are honest Veterans. We felt like we lost our money. On my plate we only had steak and a bake potato. I use to order 2 times a week and sometimes my order is always over $60.00 and at times around $160.00 -$180 only because I figure if the food is good maybe other stuff on the menu is good so I try it to see if we like it but because of this reason I have stop going to them and now a local restaurant in Kernersville. I miss the food but I don't want to be dooked out of my money because of the mistake your servers and...
