Used to be an authentic Vermont store with fantastic sandwiches and a great place to visit on a motorcycle.
Sandwiches went from fantastic to decent and the vibe went from happy Vermont to big city style.
I stopped in today leading a group of riders visiting New England from the mid-west. Pouring rain and hard to see; I was looking forward to taking refuge under the porch and giving my friends a chance for a snack and warm drink.
Apparently the new owners put up a bunch of no parking signs along the north side of the building, which in the rain and desire for shelter were not seen.
The manager of the inn came out as some were inside buying stuff and told us in no uncertain terms we were in a no parking zone and would be blocking deliveries and dumpster service. At 4pm on a rainy Tuesday in June. Not quite as dead as mud season but close.
I said we're going to be right here with the bikes, we won't be long and we'll move right away if a delivery or garbage truck shows up. Apparently that wasn't good enough. She felt it necessary to comment on our reading skills and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a compliment.
The Warren Store used to be a fantastic place to get a true Vermont sandwich. You can still get a decent sandwich, right on par with New York City for only 15 bucks. I had my last today. I don't stop at places that don't like motorcyclists.
What is truly shocking is I thought the new owners had to be from New York City. No Vermonter would treat anyone the...
Read moreThe Warren Store was recommended to me by someone on Instagram, and I am SO glad they told us about this amazing place! We spent 5 days in Vermont earlier this month, and of those 5 days, we had breakfast here for 3 of them. Our breakfast sandwiches were fantastic (I appreciate any place that has gruyere cheese as an option) and the maple and chai lattes were the best beverages I had during our trip. Their baked goods are also fantastic! I had a chocolate croissant each visit (how are they so good!?), and my husband tried their blueberry and I think cinnamon streusel muffins, which he enjoyed. They have a little area for breads and baked snacks too, and if the apple cranberry bars are available they’re a must! It’s a great place for provisions, too. We were able to get a big bag of Cabot chips, several bottles of water, some sodas, candy and baked snacks to take back to our lodge. I noticed they also had other provisions like milk, crackers, jams/jellies, hot sauces, etc. The upstairs area was being renovated but the area still open for shopping is really nice. We got some hand soap and I got a cute knitted hat. Truly a get-just-about-anything-here place. :) Lots of bath & body items, winter gloves/necessities and even kid’s toys upstairs. The same 2 staff members helped us on each of our visits and both were so lovely and helpful recommending places to visit in the area. If you’re staying in Warren, or anywhere in/near the Mad River Valley, please...
Read moreI am not the type of person to leave negative comments, but I felt it necessary, as I hope it triggers some positive change. Before we moved to VT permanently, we would often stop at the Warren Store for delicious sandwiches and a cool spot. The spot is still beautiful, but the food has devolved into the quality I would expect from a premade gas station sandwich or something basic from Panera.
Each time we have tried to come back since we moved up here a year ago, the store either decided to close early randomly, has run out of something important, like bread, by 12pm because they don’t make enough to get through the day, and without fail, a part of every order we have made has been wrong. On top of that, the staff is rude, unwelcoming and has the attitude that customers are an annoyance rather than something positive.
The lines never bothered us when the food was worth waiting for, but now it just makes the experience even less enjoyable. I hope the store understands that I would love to provide a 5 star review to the store it was in 2022. If things turn around and your team can create a welcoming atmosphere, we would love to give it another chance and update our rating...
