My wife and I decided to go out of town today and stopped at this restaurant in Wartburg to eat lunch. The staff was very friendly as we sat down and proceeded to order. I ordered their Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and a side order of pinto beans. When the food came, I took a bite of the Country Fried Steak, and it was very good. When I took a bite of the mashed potatoes, I was very surprised. They were cold. Not warm, not hot, but ice cold, as though they were just removed from the fridge. When the nice waitress came back by I stopped her and told her. I told I didn't want to send it back because I do not send food back to the kitchen. I've been in kitchens and know what happens to the food when it's sent back in some places. I told her the food was ice cold. She said she would tell the cook. When she returned to the table, she said the cook said, thanks. Wow. No, I'm sorry, no let us pay for it, nothing but thanks. I then took a bite of the pinto beans to make sure they were not cold as well. They were not cold. But, they had absolutely zero, nada, nothing, in terms of spices, flavoring, etc. There was absolutely no taste whatsoever to them. Just nothing. Again, the staff we encountered were absolutely great. Very nice. The steak I had was great. Tasted great and was hot. The other food was absolutely terrible. It would not have been so bad if some attempt had been made to even just apologize or to say sorry, we'll do better next time, please come back. But there was nothing. When paying the check, was not asked if the food was ok , or if everything was ok. I didn't mention anything else. I simply paid, gave the waitress a good tip, as it wasn't her fault, and we left. Needless to say, we will not be going back to this...
Read moreStopped in for Breakfast because I love small town diners. I love home cooking. Tanner's is not too far from where we were camping, and we fell in love with the atmosphere as soon as we entered. We were greeted warmly and our server was friendly and responsive. My wife ordered the French Toast with bacon. I ordered 2 eggs. Bacon, hash brown and biscuit. Food was delivered quickly, but we noticed right away that there was no powdered sugar (as described on menu), which was likely just an oversight. My main complaint with the food is the obvious shortcuts: frozen triangle hash brown (deep fried, but fairly tasteless), and pre-cooked, microwave wafer thin bacon. I know from looking at other reviews, that the lunch appears really good (and we plan to return and give it a try), but I suggest stepping up on breakfast. Real, thick cut bacon, and other potato options besides the fast food version would make a huge difference. Add a dollar or two to the price if necessary...it's worth it for a better, more memorable breakfast.
Again, service was phenomenal and could spend hours checking out the unique decor. Will be...
Read moreFood was fantastic. Little pricey but that’s everywhere these days. Food was done quick. My issue with the service is in regards to the manager. One of their cashiers, who was very polite and friendly, tried to ring me up as a first responder because I work at the prison. The manager was quite rude to the cashier, and fairly condescending right in front of me. I feel that isn’t appropriate, should have been handled much differently. She was a young girl and it was a mistake. There was no reason to treat her that way, especially not publicly. Additionally, I find it strange that in a county home to two state prisons, you would think at the very least correctional officers would be considered first responders? If they don’t want to offer the discount to co’s or any of the prison staff then so be it, but just be specific about that instead of saying first responders in general. Prison staff are considered first responders under Tennessee state statues and according to the u.s. dept. of labor. Such a...
