3 stars is generous. I don’t know how this can possibly have more than 4 stars. I’ve been to the Apple Orchard Inn maybe 5 times in 20 years, and living less than 5 miles away. There’s a reason. This is a nice albeit dated place. The colors of rose, beige, and woody tones are used. The floor is (gulp).. carpeted. It was really nice back in 1995. The bar area appears to me to be almost to a level of a Red Lobster, but more quaint. Keno is available to play if you want to hang out for a bit there. My first thought when this restaurant is suggested is that the fried food all tastes the same. I haven’t eaten fried food there in years, so perhaps that is different now. Every time I go there, it is with the idea that maybe this time will be better. It never is. This year, we were late on Mother’s Day places to eat, and thought we’d give it another try. The staff is absolutely nice and efficient. That could not have been better. The prices are very reasonable. But it’s ultimately about the food, right? It is the definition of “mediocre home food”. At the Mother’s Day brunch, it would have been nice if mimosas were offered. I didn’t think about that until after we left. The biscuits and gravy were hard & dry, and the gravy was just wrong. The biscuits were stored in an open basket. Even I would know to keep these in a chafing dish over water to keep them moist. The gravy was very meaty, but instead of the meat being in a country gravy/flour base, it seemed like it was added to normal brown gravy. The chicken picante was a thick piece of slightly moist chicken. It was OK. The chicken obviously wasn’t pounded down before baking. The steak was cut by a very nice chef. He said it was a T-bone steak. I don’t know steak cuts, but for a huge 10” chunk, I wasn’t sure that could be. Anyways, it looked nicely cooked. I asked for 2 thin slices versus the 1” thick slices being cut. There was no au jus or horseradish sauce nearby. I asked for some au jus from the waitress, and poured a little on my steak. When I took a bite, the steak was tender, but no seasoning on it at all, and it was cold... hum...sigh... not even the au jus was warm. I did enjoy the chicken lemon rice soup and the mixed green salad. Those were better than a typical Coney Island. I had a bite-size piece of strawberry cake from the buffet that I thought was really good. The cake and the frosting were light and had lots of strawberry flavor/jelly or something. I really want this to be a good choice for a nice dinner, but it just isn’t. I think the owners should come in for dinner, not as owners, but as customers to objectively understand the mediocre atmosphere and dishes. I think this could be a really great place if some improvements could be made, starting with the...
Read moreI've been habiting this restaurant on and off for 40+ years. I recently moved back into the area and have remained loyal even through the pandemic challenges to try and support them. My order template is always, 1- King Prime Rib Bone-in, rare, with veggie and soup side. Their French onion is a bit bland to my tongue, so I do a little spicing it up for perfection. The bill is normally between 40-50 w/generous tip. And although there have been many mistakes with my order, I've been polite and understanding. However, today is the last straw. As per usual I ordered 1 king prime rib (bone-in, for your fur family), twice baked potatoes, and broccoli. I was originally thinking I'd have my kid pick up around 2 but told her I'd call thrm back to confirm. I called and told them she would be there at 3pm to pick up. The lady, Denise, said king medium well? I said NO rare. My daughter brought the food home and I was not surprised to note they messed up my order, again. The gave me 2 prime rib, neither was even close to rare, 2 coleslaw, and 2 twice baked. WTH, only the soup which was an extra pay for it add-on and twice potatoes was correct. I tried working it out with the restaurant, but no option provided was remotely reasonable.. And once the order leaves the front door, you are stuck with all of their mistakes. This is a new one to me, because that is not how they dealt with mistakes in the past. I was even willing to drive the orders back, to get it replaced with the correct one but they were having none of it. It felt totally like a SCAM today. Kind of pushing a wrong order to.me and forcing me to accept paying 45 for their mistake. I WILL NO LONGER ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT, AND I HIGHLY CAUTION YOU TO CONSIDER IT BEFORE YOU ARE SCAMMED. They are going to come up with all kinds of excuses but the restaurant workers Jenny and Denise know the truth, and so do I. They'll give nothing but excuses, excuses, excuses. I've had enough of...
Read moreFirst time and definitely last time here. This is clearly a restaurant geared for seniors. The food is like that of a nursing home. As is the decor. It's decorated like something straight out of 1980s Good housekeeping. The staff is very friendly and welcoming...... That's pretty much where it ends LOL The price point for the portions are way off. My wife got the fisherman's platter for 25.00 she expected to at least be full. What she got was dry very small portions of shrimp and cod and they think some kind of imitation crab we're not really sure. it was way overcooked and dry. The shrimp was like chewing a bag of rubber bands. I ordered scallops. They were overcooked to the point the breading was burnt. The only thing that it came with was soup or salad which is fine but I had no idea the scallops are just stand alone. Literally alone. 6 scallops on a big plate with nothing else. No glaze sauce no lemon caper sauce no cream sauce no nothing sauce! LOL was pretty funny to look at. I had to check the menu again because there was absolutely no taste but it claims that they are cooked in garlic butter. I added tons of salt and pepper. I would have loved to complain but by the time the waitress came back my patience was already gone and I just wanted to go to hungry Howie's and pick up a pizza. Anyways for $60 I'll just stay...
