Small, but mighty! Verellen doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Yates, Blake's and other bigger Cider Mills do, but what they do have are treats and produce that are absolutely wonderful.
No matter the time of year it is, the one thing they consistently have that is consistently awesome are their donuts. They are, bar none, the best of any cider mill in the area. All of their donuts are very aromatic, fresh, and flavorful, even the plain donuts! I love their plain donuts. They have a unique, slightly crunchy exterior, and a soft interior that you can't find anywhere else in the area.
They have a wide variety of flavors and types available, but my favorites include the plain donuts, blueberry, peach, and cherry. The fruit varieties vary depending on the season (peach in mid summer, cherry in fall, blueberry is generally available most of the time, provided you're early enough to get 'em while they have 'em)
The only precaution I would recommend is that if you buy the donuts, eat them fast, like they need to be gone within 1-2 days. The plain donuts lose their unique texture fast, and the frostings get absorbed into the donuts the longer they sit in the house. This is absolute NOT a knock against Verellen, but a testament that the donuts are made fresh daily and have no preservatives. Just make sure they're gone. Which, should not be a problem since they're so delicious.
Now, leaving the donuts aside, their produce is pretty good. The apples are very hardy, with a long shelf life, and taste delicious as you'd expect from a cider mill. I've also bout their honey before, and some of their pies. Their cider slushies are absolutely top notch.
I guess my bottom line is, if you're wanting a taste of the cider mill without all of the other gimmicks, you have absolutely come to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe apples, apple cider, and peach mango salsa are great! The staff was also friendly š. We actually stopped by for doughnuts. These were by far the worst tasting doughnuts that we have ever picked up from an apple orchard. My kids are not picky and they couldn't eat them. We have a theory that either the doughnuts that we ordered were not the ones that we received, or that we had a bad batch. I noticed that they made a variety of doughnuts, thus we may have gotten some with peach flavor. Our other theory was that maybe the batter had crossed with some other flavor. I actually ended up stopping at Yates later that day to pick up doughnuts for my family after spending over $30 at this place. It was š though since everyone was pleasant. We didn't smell fresh doughnuts being made once we got out of the car which should have been a red flag. I'd definitely go back for everything...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been coming here all summer long and have been very happy with the service and fruits. However the last two visits I've been very disappointed with. The apples were wrinkly and old like they've been sitting in the refrigerator for 3 weeks but yet still cost a dollar a piece, and the service has been less than welcoming almost as if my business was not desired. I have always received good service from the younger servers, but the last time I had an older lady who did not appear to want to take care of me and had this Aura around her of not wanting to be bothered. I should have returned the old Apple she sold me but I didn't want to put up with her as she seemed to be having a bad day. An apple from Kroger would have been fresher, juicier, cheaper and would have come with...
