This is another place that was on my wish list before I ever moved to Washington. We finally got to come out and enjoy lunch here the other day. My son and I both got a fried chicken sandwich and went with the spicy option. They came with side green salads. The sandwiches were delicious if not a bit messy. Nothing really mind blowing about the sandwich. They have some spice to them, but not enough to hurt anyone who can't handle spice. The salads were super fresh and the dressing was perfect. My lady had the steak and potatoes. They cooked it perfectly and the compound butter really added some great flavor. I usually poo poo at compound butters and things of that nature on my steaks, but this time I ate my words after trying a few bites of her steak. The potatoes also soaked up some of that butter. We all shared the charcuterie board which was very good. Probably some of the best cured pork meats I've had that are home made. Most times, I find small batch cured pork products are always just too greasy or "porky", just some weird funk. The meat here is really good. The olives and complimenting pickled veggies are very flavorful and interesting. It really hits all over your palate. Here's a good tip, take all of the olives out of the bowl they're served in and place them on the board, then dip your grilled bread into the olive oil in the bowl before assembling your meats. You'll be glad you did.
At the end, we ordered a slice of carrot cake and an eclair to go. My girlfriend was really looking forward to trying the eclair, but she wasn't fond of it. I thought it was OK, but it does suffer from being way too big. As much as I appreciate giant desserts and pastries, eclairs don't really lend themselves to such silliness. You end up with a ton of really rich filling. The carrot cake slice was huge too, and I'm not complaining there. Very good cake.
There was a mix up with our order where the cashier thought we ordered an additional entree, but they were more than glad to fix the mix up and refunded our card the amount of the entree. I almost told them to just leave it, but I was so full when we were done, I'm glad we just went with the refund. I really liked how friendly and apologetic they were for the mix up. The service here is exceptional.
My first beef, man this place is expensive. Some price points were reasonable, but as another reviewer notes, your wallet will be stretched a bit here, but the quality of the food and the service are worth it. My second beef, it took a long time for the food to come out. It was pretty busy when we got there and I had to circle around the building twice to find parking. So maybe on a slower day it's faster. I would also suggest that they do start taking reservations. I understand the open seating concept, but we called a few weeks ago to make Father's Day reservations and they said just come on in, there's always somewhere to sit, but when we got there, we got the only remaining table outside with no umbrella way in the corner. We were able to move to a better table later, so no harm no foul.
This place is in a beautiful location, the drive alone...
Read moreAfter given the run around by Scratch Kitchen, which happens to be the place we had initially decided to have lunch, we skipped them altogether and chose to dine at Butcher & Baker Provisions. Although being crowded, we were able to order pretty fast and efficiently. Phew, at that point we were starving!
If you are looking for table service, keep looking, you order what you want, pay, you're given a hand buzzer of sorts, it buzzes you pick up your bag of food and cross your fingers you find a place to sit inside or out.
As we were waiting in line, the cases of baked goods, meats and cheeses, of course, made us hungrier, staring at all of the baked goods, I starting thinking that I may skip my sandwhich and head straight to the dessert. Well, my hubby talked me out of that and we proceded to order.
I ordered the Turkey Muffuletta Panini with Aioli and my hubby ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, he was given the choice of regular or spicy, he chose spicy and picked pasta salad ($2.00 more) as his side, we paid. We were able to score a table yay. Then we waited and we waited and we waited, 35 minutes total, did I mention that they were busy and it is tourism season?! We were so hungry that our table came close to being our meal! With tourism and some covid freedom, everywhere was packed! Wondering what Aioli is? Traditionally it is a mayo seasoned with garlic, for that being said many places kick it up and add different seasonings to it, dried chilies, black pepper, paprikia, onion what ever your heart desires, aioli is to enhance the flavors of your sandwhich, french fries, burger, and so on
I wish I would have remembered everything that was on my sandwich. Aside from turkey, tapanade, tomato and lettuce for sure, I feel there may have been something else, nonetheless, it was awesome and tasty (I think, I scarfed it down) and aioli free, yah I didn't care for their aioli, but I'm not a fan of mayo either and the sandwich as a whole didn't need any help shining!
My hubby stated he was impressed with this fried chicken sandwich, it was a decent-sized piece of chicken and crunchy, just what you would expect a fried piece of chicken to be. When we ordered he was asked if he wanted it spicy or mild, he chose spicy, thinking it was the seasoning in the chicken but according to what I am reading it was a pimento cheese, that is one thing he said, he couldnt definitively state "oh thats spicy cheese". He said it was a good sandwich and the pasta salad, didn't lack in flavor at all and I can attest to that!
Staff was busy but polite! Butcher & Baker also sells sauces, some clothing, vinegars and some rubs amongst many other items. If you have never been here, please do so, they offer a handful of breakfast items and salads, several sandwiches and a handful of other food dishes, but keep in mind going in that they are a little on the pricier side, we paid shy of 36.00 and no drinks.
