Coming here was a last second Valentine’s Day decision. I called earlier in the day, luckily they had a reservation spot. This had been on our list of places to try for a few months. We didn’t want to drive too far because of work in the morning. This is only 15 minutes from my house and very convenient to get to. From New Milford, just take 109. After a nice drive, we arrived. Parking lot was a little narrow, but plenty of spots. Nice views of the river from the back of the restaurant or outside. There’s an outside dining area for spring and summer. The inside has a bar area in the main room. Large stone fireplace right in the middle. Unfortunately, they did not seat me in this room. I had to go to the back where it was a little chillier. Lots of the core of George Washington. The waitress and busboy were very nice and helpful. Constantly checked on us to make sure everything was OK. Not a huge menu, but choices for everyone. They have a huge wine and beer list. There’s also a dessert and children’s menu. Not one complaint about the food. Started off with honey shrimp with GW cocktail sauce as an appetizer. Shrimp was full of flavor, loved the cocktail sauce. I got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Very delicious. It was a mixture of pork and beef. Not sure what the sauce on top exactly was, but it tasted like it was mixed with some type of wine. My fiancé got a cheeseburger. She offered me a small piece which I obviously took. Juicy and delicious. The cheddar cheese was a perfect complement to the burger. For dessert we have the triple chocolate mouse. I didn’t have much, but the three different kind of chocolate were very tasty. Overall a good experience. Would like to return in the spring or summer to...
Read moreOur experience was absolutely horrible. Your hostess was not very friendly nor was your waitress. They wanted to seat us at a table that was not big enough for dinner plates and water glasses despite having made a reservation. We ordered an appetizer and soup. It came to the table with no plates to share the appetizer. Asked for plates and they brought us one. Found a hair on the appetizer. The waitress took it and never brought another one back! My wife ordered her meat well done, yet it arrived red and bloody. We apologized for the inconvenience and asked it be sent back and cooked as ordered. After 20 minutes it came back exactly the same. The waitress took it back again but by that time dinner was ruined as my dinner was now cold. Our vegetables were barely cooked and the potatoes were cold. Water glasses were never refilled by the bus people and they had absolutely no interaction as they took my plate away before I had put my fork down. So my wife had a hair in her appetizer and never got to eat that or her entree. When the waitress brought our bill she rudely spoke over my wife about the charges. Is this how you train your staff to speak to customers? I paid for our sodas and my meal. Not one member of your staff said thank you or apologized for what occurred. A manager never came to our table to see what was wrong. Our New Year's Eve dinner was ruined. We were patient and apologetic in asking for assistance and did not deserve the treatment we received. We will make sure our family, friends and clients do not make the mistake of eating at your restaurant. Hair in food and serving undercooked meat is a health hazard. You need to train your staff in appropriate customer...
Read moreMy friend wanted to celebrate at GW Tavern early Sat night (2/12/22) so I thought I'd try it again after a long hiatus dining here. Sad to say I just don't enjoy this place. We arrived at 5pm and the place was packed with cars & people. Very few masks worn by anybody, no dividers, very crowded conditions. The only space for us was a booth near the bar and it turned out our waiter was also the bartender. She was very good, but clearly had to juggle 3 tables & the entire bar. Which ment we had no silverware or plates when our appetizer showed up, no refills on drinks or coffee without a call for help. My entree was cold and pretty tasteless. Although displayed really prettily on the plate, cooked trout should be warm. I had 3 fingerling potatoes(too few), the best part: my roasted greens were superb but only 2 tablespoons were all I received. The apps, mixed drinks & desserts are good but I am never happy with the service or entrees here. My friend had a huge veggie salad but was sad to see not mixed greens but iceberg lettuce! Really? For $26. you are crazy to serve that in 2022.Maybe I'm too picky but for 2 people in no hurry, poor service, poor meals= $130. for a mediocre meal is just really disappointing. I know a couple of other local fine restaurants where all the staff wear masks ALL the time, the food is fabulous & I'm thrilled...
