We didn't stay at the lodging but we did explore the antique stores, bakery, chandelier store and dined at the buffet dinner service (fried fish being the specialty at the time). The buffet customer service was very polite, professional and speedy and the atmosphere was comfortable being a cozy country style. Buffet food was lackluster overall, not many options for the price $20+ each adult, and most of the items were bland. However, the fried fish, meatloaf and ribs were very good. Dessert options were limited but at least they had a sugar free option and a few different baked goods as well as vanilla and chocolate icecream soft serve. The fresh bread served with dinner was delicious. The bakery didn't have a lot of variety, but what they offered looked good and seemed fairly priced. The chandelier store was very cute, clean and had a lot of unique handmade items. The "antique" stores... There were so many items in those shops that were anything but antique and were extremely overpriced. Looked like arbitrage resales and/or dropshipping. For example in the jewelry sections there were many costume jewelry rings for sale that I've seen at Walmart/Amazon they were reselling for double+ the price at the ANTIQUE shops! Very disappointing to see corporate greediness tactics like that in small community shops like these - especially while the shop was blasting Christian music loudly, the irony was beyond palpable. We might try the buffet again in the future but we wouldn't recommend patronizing the antique shops, the economy is bad enough right now, no need to willingly get ripped off...
Read moreThe restaurant gets 5 stars, the hotel 3, so 4 stars overall. We stayed here overnight to see the Eclipse on April 8. Desk staff was very friendly and check-in took less than 5 minutes. The room was clean, which is by far the most important factor to me in any hotel I stay at. It is quite bare bones, bed, dresser, small table with a couple of chairs and a bathroom. We could not get the TV to work at all. It would turn on, but not actually connect to anything, so we were glad we brought our kid's tablets with us. The room also had a bit of a smell of dampness to it, I believe from the ac. You don't notice it after acclimating to it for a few minutes but it was a bit jarring upon first entering the room. The beds were comfortable enough and the shower had good water pressure and was plenty hot. Overall the room did the job we needed it to, a place to clean up sleep for a single night, just don't expect the Ritz Carlton, or even the Holiday Inn.
The rest of the village is great. All of the food at the restaurant was excellent and we ended up eating there twice. I was particularly fond of the meatloaf and roast chicken but you can't go wrong with anything. Great homemade bread and desserts too. It's kind of like what Cracker Barrel wishes it was. A lot of the baked goods are also available for purchase in the bakery shop next door. All of the shops have lots of nice hand-made items for purchase. My wife was particularly impressed with their quilts.
I'd probably stay here again if I was ever back in the area. I would DEFINITELY...
Read moreOn the plus side, the rooms were spacious and clean. We were given a microwave oven in the room and a coffee maker. The food at the restaurant is delicious the buffet for $18 was well worth the spread. The restaurant shuts at 8 pm but they allow in house guests to box the food from the buffet and eat in the room. The service at the restaurant ( clearing plates) was also on point. There is coffee and complimentary cakes available at the Cafe all day and through the evening. On the flip side, there is very poor wifi service both in the rooms as well as the property. We stayed 2 nights and 3 days and no one came to clear the trash / clean the room or replace fresh towels. We even left the trash bags outside the room and yet no one cleared it. The rooms do not have an intercom so, everyone has to go to the reception to ask for anything. The staff do not wear a name badge or uniforms so, we literally have to ask if they work there before asking a question ( being mistaken for a guest) Anything you ask at the reception is futile since no one knows anything resourceful. All the thrift stores in the property are over priced but the place is great for photograph. There is no space in the cafeteria that serves the complimentary breakfast. I recommend dining there. Food is delicious, but if not for the eclipse, there may not have had so many in house guests. The place can be used for private events but definitely people who like to work remotely and still take a break will be...
