Amazing food and experience, until it soured at the very end. Now, I am not sure I ever want to give my business to them again.
We came in today just before noon to give them a try after seeing the menu online and getting really excited about fresh burgers and fresh baked bread! I placed the order with a gentleman for four of us: myself, my three-year-old daughter, and my parents, who live on the island. We ordered a kids grilled cheese and three burgers, plus a side of tots and a dozen cinnamon-dusted doughnut holes (to be taken home for later). Our food came out promptly and was really good - one of the better burgers I'd had - and the fresh bun just took it over the top and made it amazing! The doughnut holes, which were to be taken home for later, just begged to be tasted and we ended up enjoying half of them as a lunch dessert :) It was such a great experience and the bread was sublime, so my mom went in with my three-year-old to buy some bread to take home with us. It was right around 12:20pm at this point.
My mom was standing at the counter, wallet in hand, paying for two loaves of bread when the blond cashier harshly said to her, "Is that your kid?" Mom responded that she was her granddaughter, and the cashier said, "Well, she's walking out with a loaf of bread." Mom was a bit shocked at the cachier's accusatory tone, but responded that yes, the three year old was indeed walking out with a loaf of bread, one of the two loaves that she was, in fact, standing in front of the cashier at that very moment paying for. Recovering, my mom added, "She's not being raised to behave in the way you're insinuating." To which the cashier didn't bother with a response. No apology, either.
When mom came back out and told me what happened, my first response was to find the cashier and give her a piece of my mind. Instead, I waited for a bit while we gathered everyone up, including the rest of our lunch and the two loaves of bread we'd gotten from the Baked Cafe. When I was calmer, I went to talk to the cashier but the only person I saw in there working was the man who'd taken my order and payment initially.
If I take the cashier out of the picture, this is a 5-star review. But I cannot condone her reaction and lack of apology about accusing a toddler of stealing, especially when we'd just bought lunch there not 45 minutes prior, and were sitting at a table in view of the restaurant counter. Terrible customer service and handling, and honestly with that treatment I don't need to be spending any more of my money there. Which bites, as the food...
Read moreBy far one of the best burger places I've been to. The cook Lino really knows what he's doing. Talk to a few people in there getting food they had come from far to get these burgers. Highly recommended they have an 85 dollar burger which is everything they have on the menu. not a huge menu but definitely well worth it. They have french fries, tater tots ,onion rings , beer , soda ect. You can eat outside on a beautiful day in a very beautiful outside area. After you're done eating you can get ice cream at the ice cream shop that's inside the little Pavilion or there is a bakery with Creme Brulee, moose, cake... the German chocolate cake looked amazing. There's also a really neat store that's connected to it. I highly highly recommend if you are in the Camano Island area stop by and get a burger. And the chicken sandwich the spicy chicken sandwich is phenomenal and absolutely huge. They also do breakfast just in case you're in the area in the morning. They also make their own bread there that you can purchase as well the...
Read moreAs a lifelong resident of Washington state, a cook, and an enthusiastic burger lover, it does not come lightly that I say that today at The Baked Cafe was where I had the best cheeseburger of my entire life. This place is a little hole-in-the-wall, inside the camano Commons marketplace. This bakery and Cafe is not to be taken for granted, the sourdough alone is worth the trip to camano island. The crust perfectly toasty, without being burnt, moist yet tender crumb, and the tell take emblazoning of the rattan proofing bowls.
On to the burgers: my new savior. A fresh baked bun with a freshly ground a grilled Patty, what more do you want? Actually decent American cheese? A properly cooked juicy Patty that perfectly fits the diameter of the bun? A pickle/onion/mustard slathering on the bottom bun that doesn't overwhelm but excites the taste buds and cuts the fat of the not-overly-lean burger?
I died and went to heaven at the side of the road in my work van today. I think you ought...
