We have been to this restaurant many times and have enjoyed it. We often fly over here from Everett for lunch because they are a short walk from the airport. We usually come for lunch but this time we had a friend in from Colorado and we decided to come for dinner. We checked in and there was about a 20 minute wait. We were seated and it took quite a while for the server (Corey) to finally come over and take our drink order. We gave our order and also ordered an app. The waiter we had to repetitively ask for drink refills. We placed our dinner order. Over an hour went by and we had not received our order. We then started to notice that some tables that had arrived well after us had received and even finished their meals. Our waiter never noticed this even though they were other tables of his. We finally got his attention and asked about the status of our meals. He said he would check. He came back in about 3 minutes and said it would be 5 minutes. No apology or anything. We then said it had been over an hour and some of his other tables that had arrived after us and already finished. He then said it was not his fault. The kitchen had messed up the tickets. It really bothers me when someone says this and pushed responsibility off to others. We asked for the check and went to another restaurant in Friday harbor. Downriggers. It was fantastic. He never offered an apology and they did not even take anything off our bill for the ice tea and appetizer. Never again!

We ate here after a nice boat ride. The place itself has picturesque views over the water and we lucked out to have a nice, sunny day. Being gluten free, traveling in a group can be hard, and I went into this place blind as it had been chosen by someone else in our group. Upon arrival I was pleased to see gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, and vegan were all marked on the menu. There were a handful of gluten free options, including their french fries (fried in a separate, dedicated fryer), but only one that was both gluten free and dairy free without modifications. I went with the fire-roasted vegetable vegan bowl but I think the black bean burger and fish tacos could probably have been modified to be dairy free and gluten free. I also ordered a side of fries. The bowl was just okay. In my opinion it lacked flavor and needed more sauce. I also didn’t love that the asparagus spears were raw. It was pretty filling, though. The fries on the other hand were phenomenal. So good they don’t even need dipping sauce! Don’t miss out on them. Overall a good experience—great views, and multiple options for gluten free.

We decided to try this place since it was such a gorgeous day and wanted to take advantage of what was left of summer. We sat outside close to the door going into the restaurant but still had nice views. The pace of appetizers and main entree was timed well. We started with the calamari and seared ahi tuna. The calamari had a curry flavor which made it unique but very tasty from the normal preparation you see at other restaurants. The Ahi was a lovely presentation, but we felt that the fish was cut small and definitely lots of filler (Asian slaw and seaweed salad). The local rock fish and chips was delicious the beer battered fish was cooked perfectly. The fries were some of the best I've had. The house made tartar sauce was super good with the touch of caper and artichoke. My husband had the Wagyu dip and he thought it was decent but nothing to write home about. The staff were super sweet and friendly and regularly checked in with us. Overall a great experience in Roche Harbor. Definitely will be regular stop for us when we come up to the island.

The view here is beautiful and the food is great!

Unfortunately the service left something to be desired.

I got married at Roche Harbor last month and we had over 100 guests patronizing the businesses there. Many of them ate here and had similar experiences.

Our first negative experience was after our rehearsal dinner. A large group of our guests went to Madrona after for drinks. My fiancé and I arrived about 10 minutes after last call, after putting our fussy baby to bed. For some reason we thought they closed 30 minutes later. When one of our friends tried to order us a drink, the way he was spoken to by the bar manager was completely disrespectful and unnecessary. The bartender working was nice enough, but the way the bar manager spoke to our guests stuck with me. I understand that there are rules for a reason and I get that drunk people can be annoying, but a) you work in a bar, and b) there are respectful ways to say no. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars of tips that came in on an otherwise slower night. I brushed this off because I attempted to empathize with the staff.

The second experience was for lunch. There were four of us originally and we ran into three other guests of our wedding while we were being seated. We kindly asked to pull up the empty table next to us so we could sit together and were treated as if we asked for someone’s soul or first born child. They complied with our request, but again, there is a nice way to say no. Again, the food was great, but the drinks took forever. Toward the end of the meal, my cousin and myself ordered espresso martinis. 10 minutes later the server came back to tell us that they could not make our espresso martinis because we had “cleaned them out of espresso”. Had this been said with a smile in a joking manner, I would have laughed it off and ordered something else, but it wasn’t. We were met with the same attitude we experienced a few days prior.

Honestly, we were made to feel like nuisances which was ultimately disappointing. I truly hope that everyone was just having an off week and that this is not the general...

I have been coming here for 27 years, so it is with a heavy heart that this review is being written. WOW has this place lost its way, and gone off the deep end. For the very first time in my life, I did not leave a tip at dinner tonight. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to come out (beer and blended margarita). My wife ordered the blended margarita, and it came out 75% melted. When she asked a server "is this how the drink is supposed to look" the server replied "I have no clue." When she asked the second server to take a look, she happily took the drink to the bar, put it back in a shaker, shook it up and brought the same drink back out - seriously. Finally, after finishing our entire meal, the correct drink was brought out - 35 minutes later.

The above is only the highlight of the experience, here are some more details: Calamari was inedible Server checked on our table two three times - once to place order, once to bring out our food, and once to charge us for the meal. No side plates brought for appetizers (even after asking)

While eating our dinner, we watched THREE OTHER TABLES seated around us complain about their meals and ask for items to be taken off their bills. My family has had a home in Roche Harbor for over 50 years, and it has been my favorite place in the world my entire life - somebody needs to take over management of this place and get it back on track because Madrona was always a fantastic restaurant - to let poor management ruin it...
